Job description

  • Are you fascinated by learning from data to control future complex systems?
  • Are you passionate to solve fundamental problems in learning, dynamical systems, and control in relation to challenges arising in engineering applications?
  • Do you want to be part of an active and high impact center in fundamental and applied research in the broad area of control?

If so, you may be the perfect candidate to join our research group.

Engineered systems are becoming increasingly complex and enormous amounts of data are being generated. In our research, we aim to develop methods to learn from data in such complex dynamic systems, with the goal to allow future systems to make better decisions based on the learned behavior. Our research team's main application area lies in the broad domain of high-tech precision mechatronics - we are centrally located within the Brainport region. We believe we can use data to control such complex engineered systems to the limit of predictable behavior. To achieve this, we address fundamental questions in learning of dynamical systems (system identification), data-driven control, and control of uncertain systems. Currently, we are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher who is interested to contribute to our application-driven fundamental research, which could cover fundamental contributions that relate to the mentioned scientific areas, as well as high-impact application aspects. Are you interested in joining our team?

Embedding
This position will be in the research group of prof. Tom Oomen (www.toomen.eu), which is part of the Control Systems Technology Section (www.tue.nl/cst), Department of Mechanical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology. The Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) was established in 1956, is ranked among the top universities in Europe, and is in the top 10 of the CWTS worldwide ranking of university-industry cooperation. The CST section is among the largest and high-impact research centers in control globally, where both fundamental and applied research are performed at the highest level. Current research lines in the section include control and systems theory, cyber-physical systems, optimization, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and systems engineering. Applications are often done in close collaboration with industry, where the CST section is uniquely positioned in a key high-tech region (Brainport Eindhoven). Application areas include mechatronic system design and motion systems, robotics, autonomous vehicles and mobility, smart medical devices, energy systems including nuclear fusion, and agrifood. The CST section currently consists of a diverse and committed team of
29 full-time and part-time staff members and 50+ post-doc and PhD researchers. The section currently consists of 8 Principal Investigators (PIs), who are responsible for specific scientific research lines and act as group leaders.
