Job description

Do you enjoy being practical and hands-on while contributing to scientific research with a pragmatic focus for industry? Then come and join our XUV TechEngine team! As a Research Engineer you will be responsible for the design, operation and maintenance of one or more of our (vacuum) thin film deposition and analysis setups.

The TechEngine team is a group of 5 technicians that is the engine of the XUV Optic Group. They work every day with the complex deposition and measurement setups in the lab, and they support students, PhDs, but also post-docs and professors in physics research projects.

It is our mission to form an approachable and reliable team that provides hands-on support for thin film research for and with industrial partners such as ASML, Zeiss, Panalytical and VDL. There is always room for growth and professional development as well as social interaction. We hope you will join our team so that we can realize our vision of being the leading technical team that enables state-of-the-art research in the Silicon Valley of Twente.

As a Research Engineer you will be responsible for the design, operation and maintenance of one or more of our (vacuum) thin film deposition and analysis setups. These deposition setups include physical vapor techniques such as pulsed laser deposition and magnetron sputtering but also chemical deposition techniques such as dip-coating or spray-coating deposition. With these systems you will participate in research projects for the semiconductor industry and you will perform a diverse palette of experiments, from thin film deposition, to measuring material properties at the atomic level. In addition, you will help to analyse measurements of samples made and report the analysis within the relevant research project. You are also responsible for contacts with suppliers, and you participate in project discussions with our customers.

And of course there is every opportunity for you to participate in group activities, from drinks to sports together to visit our industrial partners.

Department

_Within the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Twente, the XUV Optics group focuses on physics research in the field of thin layers. This specialization in materials science forms the basis for special multilayer optical coatings for the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) and X-ray (X-ray) wavelength range. World records have been achieved at XUV that enable the latest industrial developments, such as the optics for ASML's EUV scanners with Carl Zeiss mirrors. The emphasis in the research is on fundamental and application-oriented studies of nanometer-thin films. The multidisciplinary program is strongly motivated by industrial, high-tech innovation. For this research, the XUV Optics group has a 500 m2 large, state-of-the-art laboratory. The group has about 35 employees. See also [website](https://www.utwente.nl/en/tnw/xuv/).
