Job description

Do you hold a PhD in sociology, social geography, political sciences or a related field? Do you have a passion for structuring and delivering student focused education at both BSc and MSc level? Do you have proven didactic and coordination skills? Then our vacancy might be the perfect fit for you!

As a lecturer in our group you will contribute to a strongly internationally oriented teaching programme at Wageningen University and be part of the Education Team of the Environmental Policy group. In the short term, you will be expected to:
  • Coordinate and lecture courses on environmental sociology and/or political science at Bachelor and Masters of Environmental Sciences;
  • Supervise thesis students at both the Bachelor and Masters level;
  • Communicate our educational program to students within and outside Wageningen University;
  • Assist in building and sharing digital learning environments for ENP courses (Brightspace, FeedbackFruits, Ans, etc.) and on-line teaching (MOOCs).
The Environmental Policy Group coordinates over 30 courses in Bachelor and Master programmes concerning environment, climate, food, marine, urban and tourism studies at Wageningen University. ENP aspires to be a front-runner in on-line teaching methods (e.g. MOOCs) and innovative student projects (4TU Student Challenge, International Environmental Consultancy, Master's courses at the AMS-institute).
The Environmental Policy Group is divided into five thematic research areas. You will mainly collaborate with colleagues and thesis students focusing on food governance, urban transformations, climate futures and environmental mobilities. Above all, you are a social colleague willing to balance your personal interests with those of the group.

Requirements

  • An PhD in the area of sociology, social geography, political sciences, or related discipline;
  • A passion for education on the social science of the environment, and demonstrated enthusiasm for lecturing international students;
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and execute multiple (educational) tasks;
  • Excellent communication skills, both with students, academic and support staff;
  • Fluency in English.
  • Demonstrated interest or ability to work in an interdisciplinary research and education environment.
  • Proven capacity to develop (international) networks in your specific field or tasks.
  • A strong team player willing to contribute to the wider interests of the group.

  • sabbatical leave, study leave, and partially paid parental leave;

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €3.821 and €5.230 for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 11). Initially, the employment is temporary for a period of two years.
