Are you the promising environmental economist who will support public and private policy makers on how to use economic incentives to make food and biomass production more climate-resilient and more nature-inclusive?

We are looking for a talented colleague with a market- and customer-oriented attitude and a great affinity for applied scientific research. You will be conducting quantitative and qualitative research activities for projects using data, models and expertise. You can work on many different topics or specialise in your area of interest.

Our team is working on projects related to the economic perspective and sustainable development of green and blue environments. Main research themes are biodiversity & nature, climate adaptation & impact, metropolitan solutions and aquaculture & sea, covering questions like:

• How do you divide the scarce space on land and sea between agriculture, recreation and nature, creating a climate-proof layout of the Netherlands?
• How can we design sustainable nature-inclusive earning models in agriculture?
• How can we safely produce seaweed, balancing economic, ecological and health impacts?
• How can we reduce our water footprint? Or measure the impact of policy on biodiversity?
• How can we organise the input of different stakeholders including citizens in a scientifically sound way for the development of policy scenarios?

We have seven expertise groups at Wageningen Economic Research. You will be working in the expertise group Green Economy and Land Use. This group with ~25 enthusiastic professionals focuses on the national and international market of governments, NGOs and businesses. Clients include the Ministries of LNV and I&W, PBL, international organisations and businesses, and the European Commission. You will be maintaining regular contact with your clients, whereby you proactively respond to their wishes and needs.

You will be working in multidisciplinary project teams that vary in sizes and compositions of disciplines. Teams may vary from a few colleagues at Wageningen Economic Research to larger teams of researchers from different (international) organisations. We often also work together with other Research institutes within Wageningen like Wageningen Marine Research and Wageningen Environmental Research.

Depending on your experience and interest, you can also contribute to the acquisition of new research projects, lead (small) projects or actively contribute to knowledge development and method/product innovation.

You have:

• completed an MSc in environmental- or marine economics or adjacent relevant direction;
• highly developed analytical skills and knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods;
• a client-driven attitude and entrepreneurial capacity to transform innovative ideas into concrete projects and products;
• an interest in and/or a network in environmental or marine economics;
• the ability and experience to work as a team-player in international, multidisciplinary teams in complex project environments;
• Interest or experience in publishing research results in reports and peer-reviewed journals;
• the capacity to communicate and collaborate engagingly, as well as spoken and written communication skills in English and Dutch (or the willingness to learn Dutch);

Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:

• A position for 32 to 36 hours per week. It is a permanent position, initially on a one-year contract;
• working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
• the option to accrue additional compensation hours by working more, up to 40 hours per week;

We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary starting from €2.836 to a maximum of €4.624,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 10).
