Job description

Are you a passionate and experienced technical assistant? Are you looking for a challenge? Are you dedicated to do research and education in toxicology? We, Wageningen University and Research (WUR) have a vacancy for a technical assistant. Are you the one we are looking for?

WHAT YOU WILL DO
As Technical Assistant, you will work with a vibrant, ambitious team of scientists and support staff. Your task at the Division of Toxicology is to design, perform and supervise experiments. You will do this by combining techniques in analytical chemistry, molecular biology and in vitro tissue culture. You will be doing research on the forefront of toxicological sciences, unravelling the molecular mechanisms behind presumed adverse health effects of food contaminants. In this way you will contribute to the development of non-animal test methods. You are responsible for keeping our laboratories running smoothly. You can show off your enthusiasm for science when educating the future generation. This will take the form of organizing and supervising practical courses and PhD/MSc-student projects.

Requirements

  • you have a higher-level qualification in life sciences (a minimum of a BSc degree is required, but applicants with an MSc or PhD degree are also encouraged to apply).
  • you have both practical and theoretical knowledge of tissue culture, molecular biology and analytical chemistry.
  • you have a strong desire and ability to quickly master innovative laboratory techniques to best tackle incoming scientific queries.
  • you are ready to take the responsibility for day-to-day functioning of laboratory facilities.
  • you work well independently as well as in a team.
  • you have an excellent command of the English language, both orally and in writing. Good knowledge of the Dutch language is very beneficial.
  • published work illustrating your experience in generating output driven results in science is appreciated

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 2.968,- and €4.078,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 9). We offer a temporary position for the period of 1 year with the possibility of a permanent employment after a successful evaluation.

The Division of Toxicology (www.tox.wur.nl) is an enthusiastic and dynamic academic research group. Our research is performed by 4 academic staff members, 4 technical assistants, 4 post-docs and over 30 international PhD students. We have a strong international reputation in the field of toxicology. On the basis of a mechanistic understanding, relevant toxicological processes are translated into risk analyses for evaluation in human health and ecological processes. The Division of Toxicology actively contributes to globally relevant topics, such as: alternatives to animal testing, human stem cell models, safety evaluation of food ingredients, biocides, nanotoxicology, contaminants in the food chain and the environment, and computational methods for toxicological risk assessment. Our education is embedded in the BSc/MSc programmes for Food Safety, Nutrition and Health, Molecular Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Biology and consists of a combination of lectures and practicals.
