Job description

Do you agree that our eating habits should not lead to health problems? Are you the scientist who wants to lead a team and contribute to the domain of food safety? Then we have an interesting position for you with experts from Biometris Wageningen University & Research in collaboration with RIVM!

Are you an expert in quantitative modelling and interested in developing real-world applications in an international setting? At Biometris/WUR, we connect consumption, chemical occurrence and toxicological data to assess the impact of, e.g., the exposure to pesticides, on human health. Our eating habits should not lead to health problems, and food safety is therefore controlled by a range of risk assessment and management procedures.

Ambitions in the European Green Deal and the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability demand advanced organisation and modelling of data coming from diverse areas such as non-animal testing, in silico modelling and biomonitoring studies. Advanced probabilistic models are needed to link more and more data varying in type, size, granularity, quality, and completeness.

We are looking for a scientist to lead a small team of researchers and software developers. As principal investigator, you will be responsible for directing Biometris' scientific expertise in quantitative modelling in the domain of food chemical safety assessment. Your tasks will include developing and implementing science-based models for chemical risk assessment, acquiring new projects in national and international settings, and using your specific scientific background to explore new directions and possibilities.

The team has strong collaborations with national partners (e.g., RIVM) and international partners (such as the European Food Safety Authority) to develop probabilistic models for exposure, hazard and risk assessment, and implement these, for example in the Monte Carlo Risk Assessment platform (https://mcra.rivm.nl).
