Job description

Maastricht University (UM) is looking for a communication officer, are responsible for coordinating and managing internal and external communications for EDLAB and our lead programme Technology-Enhanced Education (TEE). You will create, edit and publish content for internal and external channels, such as the website and social media. It is your task to make sure that we reach the teachers, and to align the process with existing initiatives and relevant stakeholders.

Background

In the past two years UM has gained a multitude of experiences leading to the conclusion that the use of technology can strengthen and enrich our problem-based-learning concept, if well-designed. The recently initiated TEE-programme aims at embedding the lessons learned from the lockdowns, in a sustainable way. The main objective of the TEE-programme is to optimise the support for teaching staff, based on well-founded didactic principles and create room for innovation. By doing this, we aim to improve the implementation of blended learning within our PBL-context.

The TEE-programme operates under the banner of EDLAB, the Maastricht University Institute for Education Innovation. At EDLAB, we promote an optimal learning experience for students of Maastricht University by advancing the field of teaching and learning for both students and staff. We define innovation as the process of creating new ideas and practices to address educational needs – to do different things, and doing things differently.

EDLAB is located in the Tapijn Barracks, close to Maastricht’s city centre.

What are your duties & responsibilities?

  • You coordinate the communication efforts on behalf of EDLAB and the TEE-programme, in close coordination with all stakeholders involved;
  • You will pro-actively carry out desk and text/content editorial work for website, social media, and other relevant channels about events, support possibilities and more;
  • You work together with a great range of professionals from across the UM to find fitting solutions for all content providers;
  • You support the process of creating an online teacher support platform;
  • You make proposals for improving and optimising communication channels at EDLAB.

Requirements

What are the job requirements?

  • You have completed a higher professional or university education in the field of communication, supplemented by demonstrable relevant work experience;
  • You have an excellent command of the English and a good command of the Dutch language;
  • You are able to analyse complex material and creatively and effectively transform it into appealing (web)content for various international target groups;
  • You support with the renewal and further development of EDLAB’s (including the TEE-programme) communication strategy as a consistent whole across the different target groups;
  • You have affinity with web applications and have experience with WordPress and CMS;
  • You see have the ability to navigate a challenging environment with various stakeholders;
  • You are an effective communicator with a proactive attitude;
  • ·       Knowledge of higher education or experience with working in higher education institutions is an advantage.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year, with a potential prospect of a permanent contract upon a positive evaluated performance and sufficient funding.

The gross monthly salary of this appointment will depend on education and relevant working experience, based on salary scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities, with an expected minimum of €2846 and a maximum of €4490 per month (based on a full-time position of 38 hour workweek). In addition, there is an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end allowance.
