As an assistant professor, you will have a diverse set of responsibilities. You will teach, conduct innovative and high-quality research, write research proposals, and participate in administrative activities.

You are interested in private law and in property law in particular. You have formulated a research line (or are able to do so) in which you address challenges to property law. Your expertise includes aspects of property law preferably beyond the doctrinal study of property law, such as in constitutional property law and/or in property theory. You follow developments in the field including sustainability, poverty, mass migration and / or aging, or technological developments. You are able to connect developments in property law to other areas of private law, for example to contact law, insolvency law, succession law or private international law.

You are a team player, and you are willing to engage and collaborate with colleagues and students in both research and education. You will teach at both the bachelor and master level, and you will contribute to the development and execution of courses in the field of Private Law. Teaching activities in courses take place in two to three periods, each with a period running for eight weeks.

The ideal candidate fulfils the following main requirements:

• You have a PhD degree in Law (or you will have obtained a PhD degree at the time of appointment);
• You have relevant work expertise in Private Law and an affinity to work in property law;
• You are able to teach in Dutch or have a willingness to learn Dutch;
• A personality characterized by vision, work ethics and collaboration;
• Keen to develop new business and use initiatives.

You will be employed temporarily for 12 or 18 months (depending on your employment history) as assistant professor (level 2) and will co-develop and agree to specific development goals. Towards the end of this contract period the decision will be taken on whether or not to grant an employment contract for an indefinite period. Your development goals will also allow you to grow further to the position of assistant professor (level 1).

The salary depends on academic qualifications and experience. The salary will be set between minimum gross month salary € 3.821,-- and maximum gross month salary of € 5.230,-- (according to assistant professor 2), based on a full-time employment, of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities. For people recruited from abroad a reduced income tax rate may apply. Maastricht University has attractive employment conditions, which include a pension scheme, holidays, holiday allowance and an end of year bonus.
