We are the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), the youngest of six faculties at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. Our faculty is home to several outstanding departments and institutions covering education and research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as well as the liberal arts and sciences. We are currently looking for a lecturer to support the faculty’s continued growth in science and engineering, more specifically in biosciences.

Job description

As a lecturer you will (co-)develop, support and teach courses within the broader area of the Biosciences / Biotechnology for both the Circular Engineering (CE) and the University College Venlo (UCV) programme. For the CE programme, your main focus will be the development and teaching of courses within the third year ‘Sustainable Biotechnology’ specialization with courses like sustainable food production, genetics & cell biology and sustainable agronomy.

For UCV as well as CE you will assist in the development of several introductory science courses and specialized undergraduate courses in the biosciences.

Furthermore, you will be an active member of the academic community and contribute to the community through academic advising, admissions..

The position in based in Venlo, with some teaching activities in Maastricht as required.

Requirements

We are looking for a lecturer with a PhD in a relevant area and preferably some years of post-doctoral experience in an academic or industrial context.

  • You are an experienced and enthusiastic teacher.
  • You have experience with course development and problem-based teaching in an international classroom or other active learning contexts in higher education.
  • You are able to stimulate student learning and to maximize student participation in our system of small-scale problem-based learning (PBL).
  • Fluent English language skills, both orally and in writing are required.


 

Conditions of employment

We offer a fixed-term contract for 1 year with a competitive salary for this position of 38 hours a week (1.0 fte.).  Depending on the evaluation, the position is eligible for extension.

The position comes with several additional benefits, including:

  • The gross monthly salary is between € 3.821,- and € 5.230,- based on a full-time contract (38 hours/week) and depending on qualifications and work experience (scale 11).
  • On top of your annual salary, there is an annual holiday allowance (8% of annual income) and an annual end-of-year bonus (8.3% of annual income).
  • Partially paid parental leave and a pension scheme.
