The Department of Media and Communication has short-term, temporary vacancy for 1 Lecturer (WD) in Media and Creative Industries

Job description

The successful candidate is expected to perform teaching and supervising tasks for the International Bachelor’s programme in Communication and Media (IBCoM) and the master in Media and Creative Industries. We are particularly looking for a candidate with knowledge and expertise in the field of the management and organization of media industries, creativity and innovation, and/or media production. Knowledge on digital research methods is considered an advantage.

Requirements

  • A relevant academic degree (preferably research master or PhD), in the social sciences or humanities, preferably in media and communication.
  • Expert knowledge in the field of media and creative industries and the ability to make a substantial contribution to introductory and specialization courses in this field;
  • A broad knowledge and mastery of common research methods in media and communication;
  • Prior teaching experience and the proven ability to inspire students.
  • Affinity and experience with media and communication research.
  • Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English. Non-English speakers have to meet the
    C1-standards of the Common European Framework (CEF).
  • Strong team-playing, organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience in international academic settings.
  • Flexibility with regards to online and offline teaching.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Temporary for 12 months.

Employment starts on August 22, 2022. The position concerns a temporary contract which will be running for 12 months until August 21, 2023. After this period, an extension is possible.

The conditions of employment correspond with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities (CAO NU). Salary is subject to training and experience and corresponds to Scale 10 or 11 NU, with a minimum of € 2.846,- (scale 10, grade 0) and a maximum of € 5.230,- (scale 11, grade 11) gross per month on a 38 hour per week contract.

In addition, we offer an 8% holiday allowance, an end-of-year payment of 8.3%, and a very generous paid leave scheme. Media and Communication Department

The Media and Communication Department is a dynamic, internationally oriented department within the ESHCC. The department offers five international degree programmes: the International Bachelor’s programme in Communication and Media (IBCoM), four international Master’s programmes in Media Studies (Media & Business, Media & Creative Industries, Media, Culture & Society, Digitalisation, Surveillance & Society) and the Research master in the Sociology of Culture, Media and the Arts. The department has close ties with the Erasmus Research Centre for Media, Communication and Culture (ERMeCC), the primary research institute at EUR in the field of Media, Communication and Culture.

Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC)

The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam. The school has three departments:  HistoryArts and Culture and Media & Communication.

ESHCC offers high quality education, based on scientific research, at the intersection of the Humanities and Social Sciences. We teach our ambitious, Dutch and international students in a stimulating learning environment. After graduation, they will have acquired the knowledge, insight and skills to make an important and inspiring contribution to an increasingly international society in which diversity plays a major role. The faculty has over 1870 students and approximately 226 employees.

The ESHCC also has an ambitious research agenda.
