An exciting interdisciplinary role as a liaison officer for strategic development of Biomechanical Engineering in the context of health science research and applications.

Job description

An exciting role is available as Liaison officer of the interdisciplinary Department of biomechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Delft University of Technology

We are looking for someone with strong research affinity and communication skills who can successfully support our dynamic and collaborative research department in its future strategic steps. This position will put you at the forefront of our exciting mission to connect biomechanical engineering with healthcare and will allow you to better understand the dynamics of healthcare-related technologies and the financing of research for this sector within the context of public-private partnerships.

Biomechanical engineering is concerned with the development of healthcare technology, such as medical devices (instruments, implants, prostheses), biomechanical models, and novel biomaterials to improve the patients’ quality of life. This implies creating technologies that are safe, effective, sustainable, accessible, and cost-effective. To meet these aims, we closely collaborate with clinical and industrial partners, within different project settings, ranging from large European consortia to direct partnerships.

The liaison officer will be the linking pin between the Principal Investigators within the department and their external partners. The Liaison Officer becomes the so-called 'spider in the web' of all the projects related to Biomechanical Engineering. You do this in conjunction with colleagues in project control and contract management. In addition, you take strategic initiatives in the preliminary phase of project acquisition and take care of related activities, including communication between partners.

More specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • coordinating the research grants rounds of the department’s relevant research programs, from the call for proposals to receiving the final results.
  • contributing to the design and implementation of a program-specific communication plan, such as the placement of (English-language) news messages and the updating of the website and associated social media channels.
  • co-organising department program-specific events, such as (international) consortium meetings.
  • keeping close contact with financial administration, section leaders, and the department manager.
  • working with the faculty project controller and contract manager to delegate or complete other common project activities to support the research programs of the department.
  • co-organising, preparing, and actively contributing to the staff meetings with the Principal Investigators.

  • Attention for working healthy and energetically with the vitality program.

We initially offer a contract for two year, with the prospect of extending the contract upon good performance if Biomechanical Engineering receives additional extension funding to continue for another two years.

We offer ample opportunity for development, deepening and broadening, additional training and a place to grow! Working at Delft University means working in an inspiring and professional environment where development is encouraged in every respect.

What to expect

  • A job in our beautiful historical city.
