4TU.ResearchData, a repository for research data and software in the technical and exact sciences, is one of the key partners of the European project Skills4EOSC. The project aims to build skills needed for the successful implementation of the European Open Science Cloud (the EOSC).

As the Skills4EOSC Community Manager, you will lead the work package 6 of the project, which focuses on lifelong learning through community building. Communities are essential places where peers come together and exchange knowledge, practice and experiences related to research data and open science. It will be your role to facilitate the growth and sustainability of data stewards communities within Europe. To do this, you will build on existing experience and expertise within 4TU.ResearchData, Research Data Alliance and other organisations. One of the tools which you will use for this is the fellowship programme for aspiring data professionals, aiming to stimulate the exchange of knowledge and practice within various European institutions (and beyond). In addition, you will also facilitate domain- and discipline-specific communities, for example, in Health and Technology and in Artificial Intelligence. This will require close collaboration with other members of the project. Therefore, this job will provide you with a unique opportunity to network with diverse groups of stakeholders across Europe and beyond, and build connections with the 44 partners of the consortium.

Your main task will be to lead the work package 6 of the Skills4EOSC project. Your main activities will be:

  • Facilitate the establishment of sustainable networks of data professionals across Europe through collaboration with national competence centres
  • Harmonise the existing networks of data professionals within the Research Data Alliance
  • Help build thematic communities within Health and Technology and Artificial Intelligence disciplines
  • Develop, launch and oversee a fellowship programme for aspiring data professionals
  • Liaise, motivate and support other colleagues within the work package so that they can effectively contribute to the work programme
  • Liaise with colleagues and stakeholder groups outside of the project e.g. Research Data Alliance, EOSC Task Forces
  • Organise regular meetings for work package members to report on the progress
  • Regularly update the project coordinator and other stakeholders on the progress of the project and act as the official rapporteur for the work package 6

4TU.ResearchData is run by a consortium of four technical universities in the 4TU.Federation (TU Delft, University of Twente, TU Eindhoven and Wageningen University & Research) and is hosted by TU Delft. 

4TU.ResearchData is a repository for research data and software in the technical and exact sciences, open for use by all researchers. It boasts around 8,000 datasets and research software, from aerospace engineering to nanotechnology to zoology. The repository has a broad community of users and supporters who advance FAIR data practices.

Requirements

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who:

  • Have excellent people skills, cultural and organisational sensitivity and are able to motivate and inspire others
  • Enjoy working with diverse stakeholder groups
  • Have experience of participating in complex projects
  • Have a good understanding of open science and good data management practices in contemporary academic research
  • (desirable) Have experience establishing, running and sustaining communities, ideally within an academic setting
  • (desirable) Have experience leading or coordinating large, multi-stakeholder teams
  • (desirable) Have an understanding of Open Science and research data landscapes within Europe
  • Enjoy working collaboratively, but is also comfortable with taking initiative and work independently
  • Have excellent writing and communication skills
  • Have excellent command of English (and be willing to learn basic Dutch - desirable)

Conditions of employment

  • Duration of contract is 30 months.
  • A job of 36-40 hours per week.
  • A salary based on scale 11 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of € 3.821,- and a maximum of € 5.230,- gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
