Are you a laboratory analyst with broad operational knowledge of analytical instrumentation (e.g. GC, LC and ICP)? Are you flexible, solution-oriented and a strong communicator? Do you want to use your skills and knowledge to help others?? We at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) have a vacant position for a Laboratory Analyst. Will you join our team?

What will you be doing?
You will support research projects with practical and scientific knowledge on sample extraction, processing and analysis. You will contribute to the quality assurance and continuous development of analytical methods and the management and maintenance of our Environmental Technology (ETE) laboratory facilities.
In your laboratory you will:
  • Instruct lab users (mainly MSc students and PhD candidates) on the safe use of equipment, materials and chemicals.
  • Support researchers in the development of new analytical methods and documenting of the subsequent protocols.
  • Detect malfunctions and deficiencies on laboratory equipment and instrumentation and perform first-line maintenance work if required.
  • Ensure that a health & safety culture, policies and procedures are promoted, communicated and implemented effectively in order to minimise risk.
  • Provide practical assistance to teaching staff in delivering successful practical science lessons (optional).
In summary, you can use your knowledge, expertise, hands on experience with instruments, and communication skills for the successful operation of our laboratory, and the successful support of research in our group.

Requirements

  • You have a BSc degree in analytical chemistry or equivalent in science related subject
  • Hands-on experience in operation, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting analytical equipment such as GC, LC and ICP.
  • Knowledge on the fundamentals of working safely in a research laboratory and experience in identifying hazards in research laboratories.
  • Skills to collaborate with young professionals (MSc/PhD). These skills include understanding a variety of perspectives, reaching consensus about goals and methods for completing projects and keeping communication open.
  • Skills to work in a dynamic environment. You can easily switch between different tasks that require attention and are able to deal with all the information that comes your way. You enjoy challenges and you are willing to learn and diversify your skill set to be equipped to tackle changes in research direction and adopt and implement advances in laboratory technology.
  • Knowledge of biological and (bio)chemical processes relevant for Environmental Technology are desirable.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written communication skills. Good command of the Dutch language is a plus.

We offer a temporary position with an average working time of 38 hours per week for the period of 1 year, with the possibility of an extension for 1 year after successful evaluation
