Job description

The mission of the KAI group is to gain a better understanding of the representation, acquisition, extraction and management of explicitly modelled, mostly symbolic, knowledge and to use such knowledge in artificial intelligent agents. We want to strengthen our group with a researcher with enthusiasm for, and a track record in, (computational) Logic.

The successful applicant will receive a career track appointment (1.5 years) with a view to a permanent position after a positive evaluation. Your duties
  • perform research in Logic in Artificial Intelligence
  • supervise PhD students
  • teach in the study programmes of the Department of Computer Science, most prominently the Bachelor Artificial Intelligence
  • supervise MSc/BSc student research projects
  • contribute to and write research grant proposals
  • contribute to departemental management tasks

Requirements

  • a PhD degree in (computational) Logic or closely related area plus experience in post-doctoral research
  • a track record of published work about Logic, with a particular focus of Logics for Artificial Intelligence
  • enthusiasm about Logic and its role in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning
  • academic teaching experience including the supervision of MSc and PhD students
  • experience in collaborative research and an interdisciplinary mindset

On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,974 (scale 11) and a maximum €5,439 (scale 11), depending on your education and experience. The job profile is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.

We offer a Career Track position at the level of Assistant Professor. A career plan to grow from Assistant Professor (profile Universitair Docent 2) to Assistant Professor (profile Universitair Docent 1) will be made and formalised in a Career Track agreement. The initial appointment will be for a period of 18 months. 15 months after the starting date, performance will be evaluated. After a successful evaluation permanent employment will be granted.
