Job description

Quantum photonics is one of the leading platforms for quantum computing, being one of the few to have demonstrated a quantum advantage and having excellent scalability as well as operation at room temperature. In particular, integrated photonics is a crucial technology for large-scale quantum photonic interference.

At the University of Twente, we combine expertise in integrated photonics with expertise on both theoretical and experimental quantum optics to carry out innovative research into the fundamentals and applications of photonic quantum interference. Our vision is to do the fundamental research necessary to build large-scale quantum optical systems that can help solve real-world problems. Some of our recent highlights include theoretical work on the USTC quantum advantage demonstrations, the experimental demonstration of the world's largest quantum photonic processor, and first demonstration of quantum photo-thermodynamics. We are supported in these efforts by a long-standing collaboration with our spinout company QuiX Quantum BV, who produce world-best photonic processors with the unique combination of low loss and high component density achievable with SiN photonic waveguides.

In this project, adaptive techniques will be developed to design photonic processors which are more robust to fabrication errors, as well as better strategies for programming those processors. These processors will then be used to implement novel applications of photonic quantum information processing which we have devised in our group.
