TU Delft, Aardyn, Shell and EBN are taking an important step forward in the energy transition and are installing a geothermal source on the TU Delft campus. This source provides both the campus and a number of neighbourhoods in Delft with sustainable heat. A unique project in which a sustainable geothermal source is exploited on the TU Delft campus and at the same time is linked to a major scientific research program at TU Delft.

To support the implementation of the scientific research program, we are looking for an operational project manager. You will be embedded in the TU Delft core team responsible for the scientific components of the geothermal source which is located in the Department of Geoscience & Engineering. You will work in close cooperation with scientific staff, technicians, the geothermal research manager and the head of the science team.

The role encompasses both the experience of site management as well as the typical project management skills. So you will be on- site and the first point of contact for operational questions, but you will also be responsible for correct and timely reporting on deviations and how it relates to contractually agreed goals. So the role is pivotal on operational, project management, legal and contractual issues. All focussed on delivering agreed goals for the project, especially for the contractually agreed deliverables for TU Delft. 

Specific responsibilities include:

• Project management of the R&D components of the geothermal source on campus.
• Coordination with the external partners, especially the geothermal operator.
• Recording, reporting and signing off on all contract deviations and implications.

Act as main contact point for practical issues during drilling/implementation of the geothermal source:

• Checking quality of equipment/etc.
• Being present daily on site, to ensure flow of information (night shifts can be part of the job).
• Liaise with the team to ensure decisions are taken at the right time and ensure financial/timing updates are available.
• Keep daily logs. 

The operational project manager will be responsible for coordination and management of the implementation of the scientific components during implementation of the well.

Requirements:

• You should have a proven record in managing large scale projects and experience (5+ years) in drilling projects where fast decisions have to be made under a lot of pressure.
• Teamworking and trouble-shooting skills are essential for this position.
• This role requires hands on experience in drilling. A seasoned professional that understands all the practical aspects of the job as well as all the commercial and legal aspects that arise due to onsite decisions.
• The position requires a high level of organisational and communication skills.
• You are pro-active and able to navigate through a complex project with various stakeholders.
• A high level of competence in English is required and Dutch is advantageous.

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

• Duration of contract is 1 year, but extensions may be possible based on additional project funds being available.
• A salary according to the Collective Labor Agreement of the Dutch Universities, plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
• Based on knowledge and experience this position will be in Scale 11 or 12.
