Job description

We are searching for an Assistant Professor/Clinician to join our Reproduction team at the Utrecht University Equine Clinic. The reproduction team consists of five veterinarians (two ECAR diplomats, one ACT diplomate, one resident and one intern), three clinical assistants, 3 lab assistants, two secretaries and a small group of dedicated researchers.  We are responsible for examining and/or treating a wide range of reproductive conditions in mares and stallions, and conducting research into assisted reproductive technologies and the causes of sub-fertility and early pregnancy loss. Our clinical service includes a broad range of assisted reproductive technologies including embryo transfer, ovum-pick up and intracytoplasmic sperm injection. During the breeding season, we manage more than 400 (mare) artificial insemination cycles per season, perform around 250 embryo flushes and transfer more than 1000 embryos of which more than 850 embryos are frozen-thawed ICSI embryos. Outside the breeding season, we perform more than 700 OPUs and perform routine evaluation of semen from more than 200 stallions per year.

The appointee will primarily be involved in clinical duties (routine reproductive management of donor and recipient mares, OPU, embryo flushes and transfers) and associated teaching (students, interns and resident training). In addition, and depending on previous track record, the appointee will be involved in designing, performing and/or supervising research projects. The appointee will participate in out-of-hours duties (routine weekend work (1 in 3); obstetrical emergencies).
