We are looking for two early-career lecturers of whom one is capable of teaching in (at least) English, and one in (at least) Dutch. You will be part of the European Politics and Society (EPS) chair group, a dynamic and young team of political scientists, theorists, and historians, aiming at excellence in teaching and research. You will teach courses on European Politics and Society, predominantly within the interdisciplinary European Languages and Cultures (ELC) BA programme.

This includes, among other things, teaching seminars in BA1 survey courses (Studying Europe, Making Modern Europe, Themes in European Politics, Institutions and Politics of the EU), teaching BA2-level research seminars (in English or Dutch), and other undergraduate course modules within the broad field of European Politics and Society. You also will be involved in thesis supervision at the BA level. Being able to teach in another modern European language (i.e. Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, and Swedish) for our interdisciplinary language-specific courses is recommended, but not required.

The chair group’s work concentrates on (European) political theory, comparative political systems, and political cultures - and the ways they operate in a broader societal context, from a theoretical and empirical/historical perspective.

What are we looking for?

- you are passionate about teaching to a diverse student population with various cultural and disciplinary backgrounds and interests
- you have a (Re)MA or PhD degree in political science, sociology, or modern history, with a focus on Europe (in the world)
- you are able to teach a variety of both undergraduate courses in the area of European politics and society in Dutch and/or English (CEFR C1 for speaking, reading, listening and writing)
- due to the multidisciplinary nature of the ELC degree programme, you are able to place European politics and society into a wider cultural, historical, theoretical and socio-political context
- you have teaching experience and relevant teaching qualifications (such as Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs / University Teaching Qualification or equivalent), or you are willing to participate in available educational training courses
- you like to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team.

Fixed-term contract: 18 months.

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

• a salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of € 2,960 to a maximum of € 4,670 (salary scale 10) gross per month for a full-time positioa full-time position (1.0 FTE)
• a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income
• an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance
• minimum of 29 holidays and additional 12 holidays in case of full-time employment.

The appointment will be on a temporary basis from 1 February 2023 – 31 July 2024.
