The Electromechanics and Power Electronics group is one of the nine research groups of the Department of Electrical Engineering at TU/e. The group is the main center for research in electromechanical power conversion and power electronics in the Netherlands. The research is aligned with the three main strategic research themes of the Eindhoven University of Technology, i.e. Energy, Health and Smart Mobility. The four research tracks of the EPE group are high-tech motion systems and robotics, power electronics systems, smart mobility and advanced modeling. Furthermore, the group is one of the founders of the High Tech Systems Center in which all mechatronic knowledge of the TU/e will be bundled.

Vacancy
We are looking for a Lab Manager for the laboratories of Electromechanics and Power Electronics Group, at the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Responsibilities
The position includes dealing with technical laboratory activities, management and technical support in education and research processes.

The candidate is:
  • Managing full operation and maintenance of the power lab and its equipment's (mechanical, electronics, electromechanical and electromagnetic equipment's);
  • Responsible for the selection and buying of components and equipment;
  • Managing licenses of administrating design software;
  • Managing the laboratory infrastructure and equipment's (research and educational laboratories) and keeping updated of developments in the field of Electromechanical and Power Electronics;
  • Responsible for defining Health and Safety procedures and ensuring to keep them operational;
  • Supporting the Group (researchers and scientific staff) on lab educational and research activities, contributing with designing, advising on choice of software, parts, equipment and materials, assembling and testing of a variety of lab setups;

Requirements

For the Electrical Engineer position, candidates are expected to have the following qualifications and experiences:
  • Bachelor, Master of PDEng degree in the field of electrical engineering, mechatronics or applied physics or Diploma HTS-E with knowledge of digital techniques and proven affinity with electromechanics and power electronics;
  • Experience in designing, assembling and experimental validation of electrical circuits and electrical machines;
  • Practical experience with laboratory instruments (such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, sensors, function generators, power analysers, wattmeters and multimeters);
  • Required experience in the following topics:
  • Power electronic converters
  • Electrical machines and drives
  • Wireless energy transfer

  • Experience in programming (microcontrollers, MATLAB, MathCAD, C/C++, PLECS, LTSpice, PSim, modules and data acquisition);
  • Knowledge of and experience in these fields is a big plus:
  • High precision amplifiers and/or motion systems
  • Serial communication protocols (like CAN, SPI, RS232)
  • Basics of control theory
  • Basics of thermal and noise phenomena's
  • Basics of cryogenic and superconducting equipment

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills;
  • A desire and drive to work on demanding technical problems, and the ability to come up with creative solutions to these problems;
  • Ability to share concepts, ideas and solutions with peers in a clear and concise manner without omitting the essentials;
  • Organisational skills, e.g. time management and ability to meet deadlines;
  • Good command of English and knowledge of Dutch or German are a plus.

Conditions of employment

We offer a challenging job in an ambitious research group for 1 year, with the possibility of permanent contract after this year. As an employee of the University, you will receive a competitive salary as well as excellent employment conditions. The gross salary lies between
€ 3.098,- and € 4.670, depending on experience and knowledge (salary scale 9 or 10).

Moreover, an 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year allowance is provided annually. Assistance for finding accommodation is available.
