Job description

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) strives to further its leadership and participation in multi- and interdisciplinary consortium programmes aimed at contributing to societal challenges. Due to recent changes in our capacity to support and promote consortium collaborations such as the European Commission's Horizon Europe programme FMG is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic research grant advisor, who is familiar with both proposal development and project management, to help capitalize on new funding opportunities.

What are you going to do

You will join the Collaborative Research Support Team of the FMG and take charge of supporting the entire life cycle of collaborative research projects. As a grant advisor, you have a deep knowledge of research funding programmes (especially EU Horizon Europe programme) and you can match new funding opportunities with researchers from the various disciplines within FMG. You have the skills to support researchers in coordinating proposal development by providing advice on strategy, organization, planning, guidelines and budgets. You also help research consortia with clearly articulating their ideas, solutions and impact. On a daily basis, you collaborate closely with (international) partners from academia and beyond, liaise with the European Commission and work with a variety of internal and external experts on topics such as research ethics, data management, open access publishing, or communication.

In the post-award phase, you may also take the role of project manager and act as a liaison between the FMG and funding bodies, support negotiations and project startup (together with legal experts, project controllers, ethics advisory boards and data management support) and actively assist with making these projects a success.

On a day-to-day basis, your tasks include:
  • Familiarizing yourself with research in the FMG (covering the social sciences, psychology, communication science and pedagogical sciences) and identifying interesting funding opportunities for coordinating interdisciplinary challenges-based research consortia;
  • Proactively reaching out to researchers to explore preliminary ideas, initiating workshops and mobilizing internal support;
  • Help building consortia and working closely with researchers in preparing well-structured and high-quality research proposals that stand out;
  • Coordinating the administrative side of project development and the submission process;
  • Building a network of internal stakeholders and mobilize their expertise for contract negotiations and project management;
  • Contributing to successful project implementation by coordinating financial reporting, monitoring deadlines, facilitating in- and external communication, organizing meetings and dissemination activities, and overseeing quality control and management of data.
