Job description

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding job in a dynamic setting? The department of Psychology of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences is looking for a(n) assistant professor, specifically within the domain of Clinical Psychology.

The Clinical Psychology program is one of the top programs and Europe and ranked #9 in the Qs world ranking of CP programs. We offer undergraduate and graduate courses in Clinical Psychology, and conduct research on a) developing, and testing psychological interventions for mental health patients (with an emphasis and personality pathology and anxiety disorders), b) the etiology and mechanisms underlying disorders (as part of the Experimental Psychopathology research school), and c) clinically relevant individual differences. Other topics of interest include forensic psychology (a master track), attachment and couples dynamics, sleep disorders, and neurobiological/ experimental research into affective disorders and network analyses of psychopathology.

What are you going to do

An assistant professor at the Clinical Psychology program of the UvA is a motivated scholar who is actively involved in developing and giving courses (55%), as well as in designing and executing empirical research (45%) in our group.

You will:
  • You will develop your line of research within the domain of, broadly defined, applied Clinical Psychology (i.e., clinically relevant research, if possible involving patients with mental health problems);
  • You will develop and offer courses in both the bachelor- and master curricula;
  • You present and publish about your research in international peer-reviewed journals;
  • You actively pursue research grants;
  • You supervise PhD students;
  • You seek exchange of knowledge and research collaborations with professionals in your research domain;
  • You contribute to the organization and collaboration within the clinical program specifically, as well as to the wider Psychology department.

Requirements

You have:
  • completed your PhD in clinical psychology or an equivalent subsequent specialization;
  • excellent research skills, as is evident from international peer-reviewed publications;
  • creative, compelling ideas for innovative and relevant research within the domain of complex psychopathology (e.g., mood disorders, eating disorders) ;
  • some clinical experience/ training in working with clients with psychological problems;
  • some experience teaching at the university level; ideally obtained a BKO (or international equivalent) or the willingness to complete the BKO training during your appointment;
  • strong communication-, social- and organizational skills;
  • if not already fluent in Dutch, the willingness to learn Dutch as it is expected that the candidate will be able to teach in both English and Dutch within 5 years of the start of the contract.
In addition, you are an enthusiastic colleague who enjoys sharing knowledge, embraces open science, is curious, critical, and eager to learn; in short, you have a strong and positive academic attitude.

Conditions of employment

We offer permanent employment upon a satisfactory evaluation following a temporary employment contract of a maximum of 18 months with a probationary period of two months. If you already have (had) an employment contract with the UvA, we offer permanent employment upon a satisfactory evaluation following a temporary employment contract of a maximum of 12 months.

The employment contract will be for 38 hours per week. Preferred starting date is December 15th of 2022. The gross monthly salary based on full-time employment (38 hours per week) ranges from €3974 up to a maximum of €5439 (salary scale 11). This is exclusive 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end-of-year bonus. The starting salary will be based on qualifications, expertise, and relevant experience. The profile UD2 is applicable in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities.
