The Brain & Cognition team at the Department of Psychology, Education & Child Studies at the Erasmus University Rotterdam is looking for a lecturer to strengthen our team in our education program (course coordination, tutor/trainer, bachelor thesis supervision).

Job description

As a teacher, you provide activating education by supervising tutorial meetings and practicals. You are also responsible for co-coordination of courses and supervising bachelor theses. We are working on a curriculum reform for which you will have the opportunity to contribute ideas. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in teaching Brain & Cognition courses as they will be involved in bachelor 3 B&C specialization courses.

Your core tasks include:

  • Teaching a given set of B&C courses / practicals in bachelor 3 and the master
  • Testing whether learning objectives are being met
  • Creating and implementing optimal conditions for learning
  • Updating content for this set of courses and/or practicals
  • Making suggestions for improvement
  • Co-coordinating certain courses and/or practicals
  • Evaluating and grading student products, as corrector under the supervision of an examiner as long as the UTQ has not been completed, such as
  • Organizing calibration sessions to come to an effective evaluation format
  • Grading assignments
  • Supervising bachelor thesis students
  • Being involved in other professional development activities
  • Contributing to the B&C team

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague (m/f/x) who:

  • has a MSc degree in a topic relevant to brain and cognition;
  • For internal and external candidates without a Teaching qualification the requirement to obtain the UTQ within the first year of appointment as a teacher.
  • has experience with teaching bachelor courses and practicals in brain and cognition;
  • has experience teaching both courses and practicals;
  • has experience with the development and implementation of innovations in teaching methods; and is prepared to contribute to the optimization of the quality of teaching;
  • has excellent social skills and is a team player.

Conditions of employment

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The start date of this position is 1 February 2023 and you will be based at the Team Brain & Cognition in at the Department of Psychology, Education and Child Studies. The position is for 0.6-0.8 FTE. We will offer you a one year contract with Erasmus University Rotterdam. This contract can, in case of positive assessment and unchanged organizational circumstances, be extended.  The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 2.960 to a maximum of € 4.670 gross per month on a fulltime basis, in accordance with scale 10 of the CAO-NU. In addition, we offer an 8% holiday allowance, an end-of-year payment of 8.3%, and a very generous paid leave scheme.
