Maastricht University School of Business and Economics | UMIO is looking to fill the position of the MBA director who is also a member of UMIO’s management team.

Job description

The MBA director’s duties and responsibilities derive from UMIO’s mission:

The following duties and responsibilities are intended to give a broad indication of the variety of tasks that the MBA Director is expected to undertake. This is not an exhaustive list of activities and employees may be asked to undertake other duties which are commensurate with the grade and circumstances:

MBA Office Management & Leadership

  • To manage and lead the MBA team which consists of 5 persons reporting to you.
  • To foster the development of the Maastricht MBA team members and other UMIO colleagues through formal processes  including giving advice, guidance, coaching and feedback, and acting as a personal mentor to peers and colleagues.
  • Ensure and promote the personal health, safety and wellbeing of staff and students.
  • Promote equality of opportunity and support diversity and inclusion as well as working to support the University’s environmental sustainability agenda and practices.

MBA Program Management

  • To become the face of the program in particular towards (prospective) students
  • To lead and participate in continuing MBA courses and program improvements and enhancements
  • To participate in promoting and marketing the MBA courses and student recruitment.
  • To maintain and develop the relations with the internal and external teaching staff and support them in the further development of their courses.
  • To manage the (financial administration and budget of the program
  • As member of the UMIO’s management team contribute to making strategic decisions
  • Day to day management of the MBA courses including engagement with students.
  • To participate and contribute to accreditations and assurance of learning reviews related activities for the MBA.
  • To exercise leadership in teaching and research activities within the context of the MBA program
  • To contribute to planning and decision making regarding the future directions of the MBA provision and the School, demonstrating excellent judgment in such activities.

Impact:

  • To engage in Industry and Community relations
  • To participate in the development of internal and external networks with businesses and other organisations, alumni, educational institutions and professional bodies to strengthen practitioner engagement in the planning and delivery of the MBA courses.
  • To raise the regional, national and international profile and reputation of the MBA courses by enhancing its quality, raising the profile of students and promotional activities.

Requirements

  • You are a highly motivated higher education manager / academic with a track record in postgraduate management, business development, recruitment, marketing and course development.
  • You are passionate and enthusiastic in developing and delivering programmes at the postgraduate level in business, in particular at the MBA level, where the emphasis is on the application of rigorous knowledge, practical relevance and learning by doing to develop the potential of students as future responsible business leaders.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 jaar.

The MBA director leads the MBA office as described above and reports to the executive director of UMIO. As the role has 0,6 fte it can be filled part-time or in combination with another role as academic or higher education professional. The associated salary scale is 11 to 13. The position can be started as soon as possible.

UMIO within SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS

UMIO is the postgraduate education institute of Maastricht University School of Business and Economics. It consists of three programme units, the MaastrichtMBA, Executive Master programs and Executive Education plus a shared service center that covers marketing, business development, HR and finance.

MaastrichtMBA is the brand of our executive MBA program that we offer in two formats: (1) modular on campus and (2) online with three face to face educational weeks. The first MBA program was offered in 1998 and currently more than 100 active students are enrolled in the two year programs. The programmes hold the accreditations of AACSB, AMBA, Equis and NVAO.

The MaastrichtMBA builds on three design principles that guide our strategic decisions and are derived from UMIO’s mission statement

(1)  Small-scale teaching – despite the growth in student numbers we maintain a maximum class size of 25 to ensure highly interactive learning
