The Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) is a unique cooperation between Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and Tilburg University (TiU). Jheronimus Academy of Data Science offers full-time Bachelors, Masters, PhD, Enginering Doctorate (EngD) and part-time Professional Education Programs, aimed at data science professionals, in both open and custom programs. For the latter unit, JADS is looking for an enthusiastic program director.

Job description

The Program Director is responsible for the executive and professional (post-graduate) education programs that are being developed and delivered in the JADS Professional Education department. The Program Director represents the academic authority in the area of executive and professional teaching @JADS, the data science collaboration between Eindhoven University of Technology and Tilburg University. S/He represents Professional and Executive Education within the JADS community as well as to the external community (businesses, alumni, organizations). In conjunction with the existing executive education team of JADS and together with the JADS research units s/he will lead and provide strategic direction for JADS Executive education: 

  • Determine the executive and professional program portfolio and instruction methods to deliver effective learning experiences on the crossroads between technology and business.
  • Ensure executive programs achieve an optimal balance and integration of practice and science 
  • Is action-oriented and manages and oversees the development of successful executive (non-degree) programs according to the strategic plan (with sufficient enrolment). 
  • Build new, ambitious and innovative educational programs mixing online and offline teaching. 
  • Inspire leading individual academics in JADS, the founding universities and beyond to engage in executive teaching activities for professionals and executives.
  • Be the most senior academic contact person to external organizations/businesses/participants in the context of executive education.
  • Development of quality standards for executive and professional teaching.
  • Manage and Expand collaboration with related Business Schools and Institutes (TIAS, TU/e EAISI).
  • Signaling opportunities for and spillover effects to other programs and research within the larger entrepreneurial ecosystem (incl. career services, alumni relations, guest lectures). 

 

We are searching for a faculty member who has the ability to communicate, work with, and manage high performing individuals. S/he will be the linking pin between JADS research and teaching staff and professional education. S/he will be working with a highly professional team running the day-to-day activities and all programs of executive and professional education. 

 

Research and Education

  • Be an active researcher and teacher in a field related to Business & Data Science
  • Is capable of translating recent research results into business value
  • Is active in translating business requirements into research challenges
  • Can inspire and motivate professionals to engage in data-driven business and undertake the journey jointly with JADS

 

Strategic Planning and Educational Innovation 

  • Build new, innovative educational programs for executives and professionals
  • Jointly with the Program Managers, align the executive program strategy with the JADS mission and strategy 
  • In close collaboration with the JADS Impact team
  • Jointly with the Program Managers and JADS Finance, plan and control the budget for the program portfolio
  • Coordinate with the JADS Managing Director and JADS Education support on operational and planning issues (including program pricing)
  • Coordinate with Program Managers JADS Education support on curriculum aspects and logistics

 

Professional Education Quality Affairs

  • Ensure overall academic quality of the executive programs; enforcing policies and procedures
  • Review with program managers the content of the various programs and courses
  • Review the quality of the programs based on client and participant feedback 
  • Brief lecturers on academic standards, assessment procedures, and policy changes
  • Discuss feedback with course coordinators and assess their performance
  • Responsible for rankings and periodic accreditation reviews. 

 

Corporate governance

  • Reports to the MT of JADS Mariënburg
  • Represents the academic authority of JADS Executive education
  • Deliver content for internal and external communications

Tilburg University

Requirements

  • PhD degree in business or technology field from an internationally highly reputed university
  • Proven research track record in Business & Data Science or related areas on the intersection of business and technology
  • Minimum of ten years of professional experience with five years in a significant business or academic management/leadership role
  • Excellent track record in teaching and developing innovative and outstanding executive and professional programs, preferably in an international context
  • Strong familiarity with global trends in higher education, business education, business and technology issues 
  • Knowledge of executive programs curricula, including familiarity with other institutions’ courses and programs 
  • Experience in managing/supporting recruitment programs at a university 
  • Excellent communication and management skills 
  • Ability to represent JADS and its founding universities

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 18 months with possible indefinite period.

This is a managerial role for the period of 4 years, with the possibility of renewal.
The administrative role of the Program director takes a minimum of 0.6 FTE. In addition and after the administrative term, you will work as an associate professor at JADS. 

 

The successful candidate will be appointed at Tilburg University.
In principle, successful candidates receive first a contract for 12 months (for internal candidates) or 18 months (for external candidates). After this period, if your suitability has been proven and you continue in the same position, you will receive an employment contract for an indefinite period of time.
The position will be ranked in the Dutch university job ranking system (UFO) as an associate professor. The starting gross salary for a full-time appointment is (minimally) € 5.506 up to (maximally) € 7.362- per month. Tilburg University uses a neutral remuneration system for salary scaling that is based on relevant education and work experience. The start of the employment is negotiable, preferably March 1, 2023. 

 

Tilburg University is rated among the top Dutch employers and has excellent terms of employment, such as a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% (annually), an options model and reimbursement of moving expenses. Candidates from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. The university will apply for such an allowance on their behalf. JADS will provide assistance in finding suitable accommodation.
