Job description

As head instructor gym you are the helping hand of the cluster coordinator gym. You help coming up with the in-gym programme, gym courses, and group classes outside of the gym (Strength & Conditioning, Circuit Training, and Bootcamp).

You coach and motivate colleagues to complete their tasks to the best of their capabilities and correct them when needed. Good oral communication is key. You also collect input from the gym team and share this with the cluster coordinator. Together with the cluster coordinator, you organize team meetings and arrange trainings for the gym team.

You are a skilled instructor, who makes sure members feel at home in our gym. Customer friendliness and providing a safe training environment are priority.

In this job, you will work many hours in the gym and regularly work weekends, evenings and / or holidays.

Requirements

  • Experience as a fitness trainer;
  • Completed sports degree or certificate (fitness instructor, personal trainer or similar);
  • Experience as supervisor is preferred;
  • Enthusiastic, customer friendly, proactive work ethic with great learning ability;
  • Collegial and good at working together as well as independently;
  • Excellent command of the English language (both written and spoken), command of the Dutch language is preferred;
  • Flexibility: both in changing tasks as in weekly changing work schedule, often work weekends and evenings;
  • Emergency Response Officer certified, or willing to get certified (UM SPORTS offers the training).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year, opportunity to extend.

  • Temporary employment for one year; the temporary contract can be extended when performance is satisfactory.
  • The vacancy concerns a job position within scale 8 (Sports Instructor 3, €2.818-€3.764 gross salary based on a fulltime contract) in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement (CLA) of the VSNU (Association of universities in the Netherlands).

UM Sports

UM SPORTS is a department of the Student Services Centre (SSC) of our Maastricht University and organises the sports programme for Maastricht University’s students, staff and alumni, and for students of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. With its wide selection of sports (± 60 activities), 31 Student Sports Associations (SSA), fun events and student-friendly prices, UM SPORTS offers a healthy and fun sports experience with something for everyone.
UM’s international character is also strongly present at UM SPORTS, in both its members and employees. Most activities are offered in English, so everyone can join in.

UM SPORTS, with all its trainers and instructors, service desk staff and management team, has more than 130 employees. Many of our staff members are, or once were, students at Maastricht University. They all share a passion for sports and exercise.
