The Netherlands eScience Center is looking for a new colleague who will reinforce the community management team by contributing the eScience Center’s workshop and training programme.

Job description

What will you do?

  • Work within the community management team, and with the lead of the training programme in particular, to develop and professionalize the workshops and training provided by the eScience Center. 
  • Contribute to teaching digital skills workshops. 
  • Carry responsibility for workshop administration, logistics and communications, in collaboration with the Event Manager and Communications Advisor.  
  • Onboard, support and encourage our research software engineers in the training programme. 
  • Keep documentation, processes, surveys and communication up to date. 
  • Liaise with The Carpentries and other training communities. 
  • Collaboratively develop and review high-quality training materials. 
  • Analyse workshop data (such as survey data and participation statistics).

Who are you?

  • You have an academic degree and affinity with academic research.  
  • You have a minimum 2 years of work experience in a relevant position where you managed small projects and coordinated teams. 
  • You have experience and/or formal qualifications in teaching computational skills. 
  • You have experience in organizing, providing and developing training and instructional materials. 
  • You have a working knowledge of programming/scripting languages such as Python, R and Bash and concepts such as version control, workflow management and open science. 
  • You are motivated to carry out and improve workshop logistics. 
  • You have good interpersonal skills, including giving effective feedback and coaching. 

You may also

  • Have pedagogical training. 
  • Be a member of the Carpentries community (e.g. as Carpentries certified instructor, instructor trainer or lesson maintainer). 
  • Have technical knowledge of website development. 
  • Be social media savvy. 
  • Have an interest in learning from other training communities of practice.
