Biomedical and genomics research is becoming more and more complex. The data that is being generated in modern biomedical research is growing exponentially, and is also growing in importance. To support researchers and build better tools for data driven research, the Radboud Technology Center (RTC) Bioinformatics is looking for a Bioinformatics developer and data analyst. Will you join our team?

As a bioinformatics developer and analyst, you will work together with scientists and other data experts to deliver bioinformatics data analysis, infrastructure and support to the various departments within the Radboudumc. You will focus on implementing the state-of-the-art tools and build scalable bioinformatics pipelines. You will assist in the interpretation of the data and discuss the results with (bio)medical researchers and you get the freedom to work independently and develop your own bioinformatics and data science skills.

You are responsible for the preprocessing, quality control, downstream processing, visualization and interpretation of omics data. The omics data consists of data ranging from single cell RNA seq to deep sequencing. Within this field you plan, create and execute bioinformatics data analysis and research projects. You also develop new data analysis pipelines and implement new bioinformatics methods. You translate your complex datasets and results to (bio)medical researchers and stakeholders. Furthermore, you are going to work on diverse computational platforms like clusters and the cloud. Another responsibility you have, is the documentation and versioning of code and maintenance of systems. You also deal with the professionalization of data services through upcoming data infrastructures and the digital research environment.

Requirements

We are looking for a structured and professional bioinformatics developer. You are flexible, communicative and have a supportive attitude. You are able to explain bioinformatics results to biomedical scientists and enjoy working on multiple, parallel projects in a team setting.

You have a Master's degree (or Bachelors degree with 4 years' experience) in Bioinformatics or Computer Science with knowledge of statistics and molecular biology. You also have ample experience with linux, bash scripting and programming languages like Java, R and Python. Experience in workflow development in Nextflow, cluster programming, dockerization, software engineering and server administration is a plus.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year with a possible extension to a permanent contract.

  • A gross monthly salary between € 3.230 and € 5.088 (scale 10) based on full-time employment.

  • As a full-time employee (36 hours per week), you are entitled to approximately 168 vacation hours (over 23 days) per year.
  • Radboud university medical center pays 70% of the pension premium. You pay the rest of the premium with your gross salary.
