Job description

Do you want to be part of a challenging research environment and work on solutions for the major challenges in our food system?
Do you have a heart for sustainability, food quality and healthy nutrition?
Then a job at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is the ideal place for you!

As Research Assistant Food Technology, you will contribute to the (further) development of new products and process technologies for the food industry.
Wageningen Food & Biobased Research (WFBR), part of Wageningen University & Research, offers you a challenging and market-oriented environment where motivated scientific professionals conduct research for companies, government and knowledge institutions.
Within WFBR, the Food Technology group develops knowledge and equipment for the sustainable production of new, healthy and safe foods, such as meat and dairy substitutes based on vegetable proteins, and products with less salt or fat. New production techniques are also often used, such as extrusion, 3D printing or shear cell technology. We work on research projects for our clients, in which the scientific focus is on the relationship between raw materials, formulation, process technology and product properties. As Research Assistant Food Technology you contribute to these research projects, e.g. by conducting experiments at one of our laboratories, or small-scale production runs at our pilot facility.

Among other things, you will perform the following activities:
  • collaborating in multidisciplinary applied scientific research projects aimed at the development of new products based on sustainable ingredients and innovative process technologies;
  • carrying out product application and characterization experiments on food products and ingredients (e.g., physico-chemical analyses), together with other researchers;
  • conducting lab and pilot scale experiments with existing and new technologies and raw materials, together with other researchers;
  • analyzing, interpreting and reporting research results;
  • the daily management of the equipment and activities in our pilot hall and laboratories for product development, bakery research and physico-chemical analyses.
You will work together with enthusiastic colleagues in a diverse and international team.
