Due to the expiry of the second term of one of the members of the Supervisory Board (SB), Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is looking for a new member of the SB/member of the Quality Committee SB from 1 August 2023.

Job description

The Supervisory Board is the employer of the Executive Board (EB) and supervises the execution of activities and the exercise of powers by the EB, for example when it comes to balancing the interests of internal and external parties. In doing so, the SB puts the interests of the university and the social mission of EUR first.  Among other things, the SB is responsible for approving the management and administration regulations, the budget, the annual accounts, the management report and the institutional plan. The SB also oversees the design of the quality assurance system. The SB appoints an accountant who reports financially to the board. In addition, the SB advises the CvB on any current issues.

The composition of the Supervisory Board is such that the members can operate independently and critically with respect to each other, the Executive Board and any other stakeholders. It is also important that members bring knowledge and expertise from diverse backgrounds. A balanced composition of expertise in the field of academic education and research, public administration, complex operational management, current relevant social developments, finance and risk management is sought. The Higher Education and Scientific Research Act also stipulates that the members of the SB have no direct interest in the university, are not also employed by a ministry or a member of the Senate or House of Representatives, and that they sit in a personal capacity and perform their duties without instructions or consultation. The Top Income Standard Act applies to their remuneration. The points system for Supervisory Board members also applies, with membership of the EUR Supervisory Board counting as 1 point.

The Supervisory Board of EUR has five members who are appointed by the Minister of Education, Culture and Science on the nomination of the Chairman of the Supervisory Board for a period of four years, with the possibility of reappointment once for a maximum of the same period.

  • Insight into the educational field (WO and HBO institutions), in the Rotterdam region, nationally and internationally. Contacts with the city of Rotterdam and the South-West Netherlands region in which the EUR participates or could participate (with research projects) is a plus;

In addition, the following aspects (in no particular order) are considered in the composition of the Supervisory Board: the trust of the employee participation in the Supervisory Board and a connection to the EUR Strategy 2024.
