Job description

The Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Amsterdam. as part of the new Outside-In initiative aimed at fostering multidisciplinary research on sustainability, invites applications for a two-year postdoc position at the Amsterdam Business School. In 2020 the Amsterdam Business School was ranked by Financial Times as a top-10 business school for UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-relevant research in Europe.

The expected starting data is flexible, but it should be no later than Spring 2023.

The successful postdoctoral fellow will join the vibrant and cross-disciplinary Strategy and International Business group and contribute to the research project "The green transition. Policy changes and firms' green innovations" led by dr. Vittoria G. Scalera (v.g.scalera@uva.nl).

Project description

The research project will study the effect of environmental policy changes on the organizational configuration of firms' green innovation activities distributed across international networks of internal and external collaborations.

The successful postdoctoral fellow will be expected to assume the following responsibilities:
  • Design and management of data collection;
  • analysis of secondary datasets;
  • co-authorship of academic articles (including first authored publications);
  • overseeing the day-to-day running of the project;
  • dissemination of the project's outcomes.

Requirements

The ideal candidate for the position will be a recent PhD graduate, with interest in the project domain and experience in managing and analyzing very large datasets. Excellent quantitative, programming, and analytical skills are essentials, including advanced knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Phyton) and statistics software packages (e.g., STATA, R). Desirable criteria include knowledge of patent data and of one or more of the below disciplines spanning multiple levels of analysis, from individual to firm and to country:
  • Economics of innovation;
  • environmental economics;
  • computer science;
  • strategy;
  • international Business;
  • innovation.

Conditions of employment

You will be appointed for an initial period of 12 months for 38 hours a week with a possibility to extend it for an additional 12 months, pending positive evaluation. As part of your contract, you will spend 20% of your time on teaching. You will be classified as Researcher (postdoc) in the Dutch University job-ranking system (UFO), The gross monthly salary will be, depending on experience, between €2,960 and € 5,439 (salary scales 10 and 11) based on 38 hours per week, with an additional end-of-year bonus (8.3%) and holiday allowance (8%).

Researchers from outside the Netherlands can apply for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. We also offer assistance in finding accommodation and career support for partners.

Education and research at UvA Economics and Business (EB) cover a wide range of fields that includes economics, data science, business administration, business analytics, accountancy, control, econometrics, finance and entrepreneurship.
