Tenure track position developing and applying data-driven and AI methods to the wider domain of marine hydrodynamics.

Job description

Data-driven methods and machine learning are playing an increasingly critical role in the maritime field. AI-based technologies are particularly relevant given the complexity of ship hydrodynamics predictions and optimization, as well as the increasing demand for sustainable, safe, and efficient shipping and offshore operations. The Department of Marine & Transport Technology at TU Delft is seeking an Assistant Professor in the field of AI and ship hydrodynamics, ideally starting with the 2023-2024 academic year.

This is a tenure-track position, and the successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, internationally recognized research program and to contribute to the department's educational mission. You are expected to actively pursue collaboration within TU Delft with AI experts. The position is part of the TU Delft broad AI Labs & Talent programme and offers tenure-track positions to outstanding academics active in AI or digitalisation-related research areas to find answers to major scientific and societal challenges. Research in AI is critical for the development of these technologies and their integration into the maritime field. As such, the research will be conducted in close collaboration with industry partners and other stakeholders, ensuring it is relevant and has a real-world impact.

The successful candidate will be provided the opportunity to increase the capacity of inter-disciplinary research and education in digital transformation as part of the ‘AI, Data & Digitalisation’ at TU Delft connecting AI experts and scientists across the university. It is anticipated that all bachelor and master programmes will incorporate an AI-component in the near future. You will take part in developing the AI components of these educational programmes.
