The Environmental Policy Group at Wageningen University is looking for a PhD researcher to work in the RVO funded BeWild programme. BeWild focuses on the integration of new monitoring and management technologies for strengthening biodiversity around new marine infrastructures in the North Sea. Working in a wider group of researchers, you will conduct your PhD on new technologies of automated data collection to assess biodiversity through offshore wind energy, and the opportunities that can emerge through this data to enable new collaborations for conservation and restoration in the North Sea.
During this time, you will work with a consortium of researchers and private sector actors working on new data technologies. Your specific research tasks will focus on the changing policies on biodiversity, data and wind energy in the North Sea; explore possibilities for new governance arrangements over automated data generation in the marine environment; and identify how information can be used to incentivise nature inclusive design of marine infrastructures such as wind energy.

• A MSc degree in sociology, political science, anthropology, science and technology studies, human geography or a related discipline;
• An affinity with (automated) information systems, technology innovation and marine biodiversity;
• Strong scientific writing skills;
• Strong qualitative research skills;
• Motivation to collaborate in the interdisciplinary research team of BeWild, with good communication skills;
• For this position your command of the English language is expected to be at C1 level. Sometimes it is necessary to submit an internationally recognised Certificate of Proficiency in the English Language. More information can be found here.

The gross salary for the first year is € 2.541,- per month rising to € 3.247,- in the fourth year in according to the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale P). This is based on a full-time working week of 38 hours. We offer a temporary contract for 18 months which will be extended for another 30 months if you perform well.
