At the Department of Public Health and Primary Care of KU Leuven, a part-time or full-time academic position is vacant in the domain of occupational medicine.

Duties

Research

• You are an ambitious, internationally oriented researcher in the field of preventive healthcare and in particular occupational and environmental medicine and health effects due to exposure to chemical agents. You have experience in a relevant research field within occupational medicine (e.g. exposure assessment, clinical occupational/environmental medicine, occupational hygiene, occupational toxicology, work-related diseases such as silicosis, occupational asthma, inhalation injuries, exposure-induced autoimmune diseases, ….).
• You will develop a research program within occupational medicine, publish in international journals, acquire research funding, and develop national and international research partnerships.
• You strive for excellence in your research and thus contribute to the reputation of KU Leuven and the Department of Public Health and Primary Care.

Education

• You take up teaching tasks within public health in general, and occupational medicine in particular, as well as teaching tasks related to your specific research expertise. You provide this contribution in the medical curriculum and within the interuniversity advanced master program in occupational medicine. For the latter you take on the role of academic coordinator.
• You supervise master, advanced master and doctoral dissertations.
• Your education meets the requirements set for academic programs in terms of level, orientation and academic orientation and is in line with the educational concept of KU Leuven. Commitment to the quality of the program as a whole is self-evident.

Service

• You put teaching and research activities at the service of society by participating to domain specific service activities.
• Over time, you are willing to engage in academic responsibilities within KU Leuven and to contribute to the national and international visibility of the department.
• You develop a network of contacts within occupational medicine that add value in terms of research and/or teaching.
• You supervise the occupational diseases and inhalation pathology consultation (University Hospitals Leuven). The focus of this consultation is on (Occupational diseases of lungs and other organ systems, Human toxicology, Environment and health (especially air pollution))
• You will also participate, as expert in occupational and environmental exposure, in the multidisciplinary discussion team interstitial lung diseases.

• Candidates must hold a degree of medical doctor and a PhD. An additional degree in occupational medicine and / or a specialization in occupational hygiene is recommended.
• Candidates are expected to demonstrate significant research experience in one or more topics relevant to occupational and environmental medicine. The quality of the research must be evidenced by publications in international journals and experience in writing project applications. International research experience is an added value. Experience in clinical occupational medicine or toxicology is recommended.
• You have strong teaching skills and preferably demonstrable teaching experience. You have the necessary communication and organizational skills and you are a team player.
• Proficiency in English is required. 

The official language used at KU Leuven is Dutch. If you do not speak Dutch (or do not speak it well) at the start of employment, KU Leuven will provide language training to enable you to take part in meetings.

Before teaching courses in Dutch or English, you will be given the opportunity to learn Dutch, respectively English, to the required standard.
