Job description

Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) has a vacancy for an Assistant Professor with expertise in Strategic Management and/or International Business. The position includes at least 40% research time and the remaining time is reserved for governance and teaching activities. Candidates are expected to develop their own research profile and teach in the bachelor's and master's programmes of the School. Teaching is in English.

The Assistant Professor will coordinate and teach courses at bachelor and master level offered by U.S.E.'s Entrepreneurship section . We are open to candidates who can teach courses in Strategic Management and International Business, but also candidates with expertise in Related Management- or Business Economics themes (e.g., corporate governance) are encouraged to apply. The Assistant Professor will take care of high quality teaching in accordance with the academic and
departmental guidelines. Furthermore, the Assistant Professor supervises bachelor and master theses and other research projects by students.

The Assistant Professor spends at least 40% of her/his time on research that is supported by the U.S.E. Research Institute. The institute stimulates collaboration with researchers from other disciplines and research activities that address societally relevant issues. Requirements

The successful candidate is expected to have academic teaching skills and to contribute to the research programme of the U.S.E. Research Institute. More specifically:
  • a PhD degree in economics, management or related disciplines;
  • a strong track record (or pipeline for younger candidates) in research as demonstrated among others by publications and citations in international recognised journals;
  • strong quantitative skills in econometrics and/or data science;
  • teaching experience in an international academic environment with the proven ability to inspire students from undergraduate to graduate levels, apparent from positive assessments by students and peers;
  • strong communication and coordination skills;
  • strong command of spoken and written English.

Conditions of employment

We offer a temporary position (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) for 18 months in an international working environment, with the expectation of being rewarded tenure after this period. U.S.E. actively stimulates career development of Assistant Professors (Universitair Docent) with the possibility of ultimately progressing to Associate Professor (UHD) . The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between € 3,974 and €5,439 (scale 11 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.
