An ambitious university requires dedicated support to our scientists within the fields of Research Data Management (RDM) and Open Science. This support is now provided by the Areas Research and Library within LIS (Library and Information Services). Within the Area Research the sections (RDM), Data Integrations and HPC closely work together with IT Consultants and Data Stewards to support the research community. Library contributes with the team Open Science Support.

The position
We are looking for an experienced Data Steward, with an enterprising and customer-oriented attitude. You will support the team of Data Stewards, organize the work of the Data Stewards in the various departments of the TU/e. Moreover, you will act as a communicator with stakeholders in the various departments, as well as with the other sections in the Area Research. This includes the review and reprioritization of the backlog of the team as part of the preparatory work for iteration. In specific cases, you will support the data stewards in addressing internal and external requirements with regards to RDM, applying FAIR principles to research data, and so contribute to reuse and reproducibility of research.

Next, you will contribute to the further development of FAIR principles and Open Science within TU/e. You participate in the development of protocols and guidelines, and you will also have the opportunity to become involved in the setup of an educational RDM program. This role will also offer you active participation in national initiatives of RDM, FAIR and Open Science.

You will primarily report to the Area Lead Research and closely cooperate with colleagues at the Library.

Requirements

We would like to onboard a new colleague who brings the following qualifications and characteristics:
  • An academic level of work and thinking, preferably a completed Master or PhD and affinity with research practice;
  • Senior experience as a Data Steward;
  • Profound knowledge of national and international privacy regulations (AVG/GDPR), and of the security demands in case of confidential and sensitive data including health-related data;
  • Combination of strong interpersonal and technical skills. Skilled in transferring and sharing knowledge to staff, students, junior researchers and senior researchers;
  • Experience in interacting with stakeholders at all levels of the organization;
  • A good understanding of the (inter)national initiatives in RDM, FAIR and Open Science;
  • Customer-oriented, and a supportive way of working, you gain energy from supporting and solving issues for others;
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing. Proficiency in the Dutch language is not a requirement, but it is a strong advantage.
