Are you passionate about educating students at a bachelor and master level and fascinated by building physics and services and the design of buildings and urban areas? Do you want to contribute to a sustainable future? Then you may be an excellent candidate for this Lecturer position. Job Description Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is a leading research university specializing in engineering science and technology with strong bonds to industry practice. We aim to educate future generations of students and meet today's and tomorrow's societal challenges. The unit Building Physics and Services is part of the Department of the Built Environment and is comprised of six focus areas: Building Acoustics, Building Lighting, Building Materials, Building Performance, Building Physics, and Building Services. Together they constitute the Building Physics and Services research program, with an outstanding international reputation. The six areas share a strong scientific background and work together on excellent education and research to effectively contribute to a healthy, comfortable, and sustainable built environment, taking into account economic, ecological and energetic constraints.
As a lecturer, your main focus will be on educating the new generation of building physicists, building material scientists and building services engineers, both in the bachelor program Architecture Urbanism and Building Sciences and in the master track Architecture Building and Planning - Building Physics and Services. These programs contribute to important societal themes like the energy transition, sustainability and circularity and are intertwined with research, however this position focuses on teaching.
Within these programs you will maintain, co-develop and teach courses of up to 250 students in the bachelor and groups of up to 50 students in the master. You will be supervising project work carried out by individual students or groups of about 15 students, with an emphasis on bachelor projects. All teaching will be held in English, which is the official language of our educational programs.
You should have a broad, general background in the field of building physics and services and feel confident teaching one or more courses at undergraduate (bachelor) level since our educational programs are integrally addressing all six focus areas. As a lecturer you should have some experience with relevant software programs and measurement methods in the field and preferably worked in practice, so that you can bring your practical experience to the classroom. Expertise in other building disciplines (such as structural design, architecture, urbanism and urban systems and real estate) is an advantage but not a must.
This lecturer position is embedded in the unit BPS, where you will teach as a part of a team of dedicated staff members and depending on your background (main expertise) you will be hosted by one of the six research groups of the Unit BPS (
https://www.tue.nl/en/research/research-groups/building-physics-and-services/). Besides working in the unit BPS, you will also collaborate with colleagues from other units in the department.
As a lecturer you will have ample opportunity to help improving the quality of our bachelor and master programs by facilitating a shift from teaching towards learning, exposing our students to real life challenges, applying challenge based learning methods and by participating in education committees.
