Job description

The Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics (KdVI) is the research institute for mathematics of the University of Amsterdam. It has more than 90 employees and the following research programmes: Analysis, Stochastics, Algebra, Geometry and Mathematical Physics, and Discrete Mathematics and Quantum Information.

In 2022, KdVI was assessed very positively by an external review committee: its research is of high quality, the institute has recently grown in size, and is prominent in both the national and international mathematical society and in (interdisciplinary) networks with other partners.

The institute has the ambition to further strengthen its (inter)national position in the coming years. Developments include quantum-related and financial mathematics. In programmes and projects, KdVI closely cooperates with other scientific institutes and disciplines, with civil society organisations and the finance community. The institute also plays a central role in the national mathematics network LNMB and in the secretarial support of the national master's programme MasterMath.

The KdVI provides the lecturers in and management of the Bachelor programme in Mathematics and its two Master programmes 'Mathematics' and 'Stochastics and Financial Mathematics'. In addition, KdVI provides service education in the field of mathematics within other programmes. The institute also has a so-called "deficiency program", which offers education and examination to prospective students who do not (yet) meet the preliminary education requirements with regard to mathematics set by the (bachelor) program of their choice.

The Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics is looking for an:
