Job description

Then join the Department of Information and Computing Sciences as Scientific Programmer and strengthen our IT team.

Together with your colleague Scientific Programmer, you will ensure that scientific programming support is more broadly embedded in the department. You get the space to shape this position with a lot of creativity and your own input. In doing so, you will work closely also with the departmental data and hardware managers.

What will you do? Consider the following activities: 

  • Develop, extend, release, and maintain software to conduct and showcase computing science research.
  • Develop and maintain a software versioning, access control system, and processes for software management within the department and keep externally sourced research software in the department up-to-date.
  • Provide training on how to operate research software and demonstrators.
  • Liaise between researchers and university ICT services to find the best software solutions for research.
  • Contribute to policy-making regarding software management and open software in the department.

Requirements

You like to discover new techniques and introduce them enthusiastically to your colleagues. You possess a proactive, positive and problem-solving attitude and are motivated to work in an academic environment.

Furthermore, we would like you to bring the following: 

  • Master or PhD degree in Computing Science or related discipline.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Software engineering knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience with programming applications and mainstream programming techniques (e.g. Python, Java, R, C++).
  • Demonstrated experience with contributing to/maintaining large-scale software projects (e.g. GitHub, CM/Synergy, Doors).

We consider it an advantage if you bring experience with one or more of the following:

  • mainstream programming techniques in 3D/graphics (e.g. Unity, Unreal Engine, C/C++, CUDA, OpenCL);
  • programming 3D graphics/interaction/visualization/motion capture/animation applications;
  • machine learning.

Conditions of employment

  • A challenging, new position within a dynamic and rapidly growing department;
  • A position for a year with the prospect of permanent employment;
  • A full-time gross salary ranging from €2,960 to €4,670 in scale 10;
  • 8% holiday bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
  • A pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment conditions based on the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities.
