Are you passionate about both humans and AI? Are you fascinated by the intricate relationships between human and machine intelligence? Are you eager to contribute to transparent and responsible AI? Do you wish to contribute to research and education in these areas?

Job description

Current developments in digitization, robotization, automation, and artificial intelligence are drastically changing our society and how individuals interact with each other and with technology. The research group Human Technology Interaction (HTI) is actively involved in studying these developments by building its research on a disciplinary foundation in the social sciences (mainly cognitive and social psychology, and perception), yet explicitly strives to bridge and contribute to interdisciplinary research fields in multiple areas as varied as human-computer interaction, affective computing, decision-making and human-data interaction, and environmental psychology. HTI is responsible for the Bachelor program Psychology & Technology at TU/e, serving 300 students, and its corresponding Master program Human-Technology Interaction, serving 100 students. Both are internationally oriented programs, with a strong combination of interdisciplinary science, research methodology, and societal application.

With this position, we aim to reframe and redesign the relationships people have with intelligent technologies beyond traditional notions of technology as mere tools to be used. When incorporating collaborative machine intelligence within complex human contexts, we are essentially seeking to augment human intelligence and enhance human flourishing, in part by understanding and designing the interface between representations that are good for AI systems and those that are good for people. This requires an approach that acknowledges the complexity of analyzing and designing multi-agent systems as responsible, aware and robust elements of even more complex systems, such as healthcare, mobility, the economy, and our ecology.

You initiate, perform, and supervise high-quality research in Human Technology Interaction; teach and co-develop inspiring and high-quality courses in Bachelor and Master Programs of the school of Innovation Sciences; initiate and contribute to externally funded research projects; assist in the supervision of Ph.D. students, and contribute to the management of the group and the department.

Science is not an individual endeavor at HTI. As Assistant Professor in Intelligence Augmentation, you will be part of a larger team of scientists working towards understanding and designing human-centered technological innovations. We highly value collegiality, collaboration, and team science and look forward to welcoming you in our midst. Preferably, we would want you to join us no later than.
