Would you like to work as an independent researcher on practice-based research in the field of Responsible AI? Do you have experience with design-oriented research and are you looking for a challenging and prominent role in an ambitious research program of (inter)national importance? Then this is the perfect opportunity for you!

Job description

AI impact on society

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly penetrating the capillaries of society. This has far-reaching implications for organizations, professions and society and leads to new challenges within the field. How can AI applications be designed, developed and implemented in an ethically responsible manner? What is ethical AI? How do you design industry-specific solutions? What practical tools, methods and training can support (future) professionals in creating responsible AI? At Hogeschool Rotterdam we are conducting research to provide answers to these questions and we are looking for a senior researcher on this topic.

What will you do?

As a senior researcher at Hogeschool Rotterdam you will have the opportunity to find answers to important questions about ethical responsible AI. You will work within the 8-year research program Responsible Applied AI (RAAIT), where you will play a prominent role in drafting and implementing the research plan for the research line 'Methods for design & co-creation'.

You will conduct research on the responsible development of AI and the design methods that can be used in the process. You will develop tools that make ethical guidelines concretely manageable and engage stakeholders in co-creation processes. The goal of the research is to develop a Responsible Applied AI methodology, with practical tools, best practices, prototypes, education and training that can be widely used in education and at various organizations in practice.

This role involves creativity in addition to expertise. For example, your future colleagues already developed a boundary object to make power dynamics behind AI tangible and discussable, which we then presented at various events, such as MozFest. Context and collaboration

The research within RAAIT is organized on the basis of "learning environments". Here everything revolves around cooperation between various external organizations and researchers, teachers and students of Hogeschool Rotterdam. Currently, a learning environment for Business Services is already running and a learning environment in the healthcare domain is being set up. You will shape the collaboration with (junior) researchers, students (minor or graduation) and practice partners. You will also work together with the researchers of the two other research lines within the RAAIT program, which are led by the Hogeschool van Amsterdam and Hogeschool Utrecht.

As a senior researcher Designing Responsible AI at Hogeschool Rotterdam, you will have the opportunity to make an important contribution to the development of AI in our society. You will work in a team of dedicated researchers and inspiring professionals and have the opportunity to work on a relevant national research infrastructure, with international appeal.
