Role

As a tenure-track assistant professor of supply chain management (SCM) in the department of Technology and Operations Management (TOM) at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), you’ll be working in a research-led business school. In your work, you are closely involved with Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) – the joint research institute of RSM and the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE).

You enjoy teaching classes that focus on analytics within SCM and logistics, and you conduct research both independently and in cooperation with others. The team you work with is diverse and, like you, the many scholars in that team aim to make major contributions to management research and management practices in the field of SCM, through teaching, research and engagement. Your experience up to now coupled with your concise and animated teaching style are appreciated by your students, colleagues and the rest of the support staff.

It's a distinct advantage for you as a researcher in SCM and logistics to be so close to the biggest seaport in Europe and an international gateway to the massive markets of Western Europe. The greater Rotterdam - The Hague area ranks second as the most competitive region in the European Union Regional Competitiveness Index. The Dutch logistics sector employs over 750,000 people and adds about €40 billion to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). RSM’s research and teaching are inspired by its home city but are influenced by and have influence on the rest of the world.

Your main tasks
  • Conducting research, independently and in collaboration with others
  • Teach elements of operations and SCM in RSM’s two bachelor programmes and several master programmes
  • The emphasis of the teaching portfolio will be on courses that centre around the use of analytics
  • Engagement with practitioners

Requirements

You possess:
  • A PhD (or expect to complete soon) in SCM operations management, logistics or a closely related field.
  • A demonstrated a potential for excellence in research and teaching.
  • Relevant experience and an interest in analytics applied to operations management and supply chain management challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of both econometric modelling on empirical data as well as machine learning techniques.
  • A desire to apply impactful research in your work.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 72 months.

  • A strong community of 90 researchers from a wide variety of nationalities and backgrounds, including more than 40 PhD students in the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) business processes, logistics and information systems track (LIS).
  • A challenging position that involves research and teaching focused on data-driven efforts towards more sustainable global supply chains.

The conditions of employment correspond with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 3974 and up to a maximum of € 5439 gross per month (scale 11 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.
