Job description

Research Data Management is now an important landmark on the scientific landscape. As a repository for research data and software within science, engineering and design, and with a strong community around it, 4TU.ResearchData plays an increasingly important role in (inter) national developments of FAIR Data. 4TU.ResearchData is a collaboration of four universities of the 4TU.Federation, but also a host of the newly established Thematic Digital Competence Centre for Natural and Engineering Sciences, which brings together the key institutions and research infrastructures within the domain. 4TU.ResearchData is also one of the four partners in Research Data Netherlands (RDNL), where it jointly contributes to the delivery of training for aspiring data stewards and organises the biannual Dutch Data Prize. Furthermore, 4TU.ResearchData plays a prominent role in international research data and open science landscape through involvement in projects building the European Open Science Cloud.

The Director of 4TU.ResearchData will manage and inspire a team of more than 10 staff that form the 4TU.ResearchData team, and also act as line manager for staff appointed for the TDCC NES.

The postholder will:

  • Oversee the strategy of 4TU.ResearchData: monitor the (inter)national developments in FAIR Data and develop an effective strategy for the organisation in response to capitalise on these developments.
  • Represent 4TU.ResearchData nationally and internationally and influence (inter)national discussions in relation to FAIR Data.
  • Secure the interests of 4TU.ResearchData and leverage opportunities in national fora, such as the NWO regieorgaan Open Science, Research Data Netherlands (RDNL), TDCC NES.
  • Deepen the strategic and operational relationship with other universities in the 4TU.Federation.
  • Develop a relationship with the universities and other stakeholders in the exact sciences, aiming for a closer collaboration with the TDCC NES.
  • Ensure constant innovation of services by identifying new opportunities, building consortia and securing external funding for exploratory and innovative work.
  • Build and exploit Dutch and global research data networks to strengthen the position of 4TU.ResearchData nationally and internationally.

Requirements

  • Strong affinity for academic research, preferably with a background in applied or technical sciences.
  • Strategic thinker, who can connect different departments and facilities.
  • Dedicated manager, capable of inspiring team members; aware of how to address others’ motivations.
  • Excellent communicator, adjusting to different stakeholders; able to persuade others of the value of good research data management
  • Ability to manage digital services, and knowledge to ensure services function consistently.
  • Good command of the English language. Willing to learn Dutch to B2 listening level.

Conditions of employment

  • Duration of contract is permanent.
  • A job of 32-40 hours per week.
  • A salary based on scale 12 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of €4.814,- and a maximum of €6.181,- gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
