Our society is moving towards a new economic framework in which profitability is no longer the primary goal, but where organizations have to find the right balance in the impact they make. You can contribute to this change. In collaboration with fellow researchers, students, education professionals and the professional field, you will connect practice-oriented research with higher economic education, and make a real impact on the formation of a value-driven economy.

Job description

University of applied sciences Utrecht (HU UAS) teaches students to become professionals and is leader in the transition towards the New Economy. Under societal pressure, the economy is in need of renewal: from purely financial to a model that takes into account people, planet and the environment: multiple value creation. We are re-evaluating our vision of a healthy economy: from unlimited growth to a form that relates to ecological and socio-economic limits in the right way. In addition, the digital revolution requires maximum adaptability of our economy and offers opportunities to shape a new economy. These developments mean that the classic economic fields in Higher Economic Education, such as Economics, Marketing, Business Administration, Finance & Accounting, Communication, etc., will change. The question in the professional field and education is: How does our current knowledge relate to the frameworks of this New Economic perspective? And what is needed to accelerate the transition towards a new economic reality?

HU students, graduates, teachers, and researchers become co-shapers of the society of the future. To achieve this, we have developed an ambitious plan in which we will renew our education and research program within the economic domain along substantive lines. These lines go beyond the silos of classic courses, disciplines, and research areas.

HU team New Economic Research & Education (HU team NEOO)

We are currently setting up 'HU team NEOO'; a group of experienced, passionate researchers and education professionals with the ambition to develop valuable knowledge to anchor it in practice and education. We will fill in at least 8 positions this year. HU team NEOO will be collectively responsible for concretizing the substantive lines into practice-oriented research projects, for and with the professional field. At the same time, this team will be involved in advising and designing an institute-wide educational curriculum towards our ambition for Higher Economic Education. Of course, in close collaboration with experts within our organization.

What will you do?

As a Senior Researcher in HU team NERO, you will combine research with education. You will work 60% at the Knowledge Centre Digital Business & Media and 40% at one of the educational institutes in the economic domain. We explicitly ask you to look beyond the boundaries of the classic research disciplines.

  • Research: Conducting, supervising, and publishing research within one or more research themes:
  • Research theme: Analysis of the needs of the relevant societal field and translating them into contributions for the (co) development of education development and innovation-oriented research programs. You contribute to the vision formation of HU lectorates and act as an expert on a research line.
  • Knowledge development, distribution, and impact: Encouraging the development and production, dissemination, and circulation of knowledge. Spreading knowledge of the own field of expertise in media and advisory assignments.
  • Collaboration with the environment: Maintaining and expanding (inter)national contacts with the professional field at all levels.
  • Contract activities and research acquisition activities: Recruiting clients based on analyses of societal needs and executing contract activities.
