Does translating user needs into requirements for software applications sound like music to your ears and do you have an affinity with the academic world? Then read on quickly, because then you may be the product owner we are looking for.

Job description

“Supporting your academic goals.” That is what we do at Maastricht University Library. One of those goals is collecting and storing data in an efficient and correct manner. With the survey tool Qualtrics, data can be collected for both academic research and for education and business operations. The data collected there must then also be stored in the right place and in accordance with legislation and guidelines and must not be stored in the survey tool longer than necessary. As a data collection & storage product owner, you ensure that the tools for data collection and storage are set up in such a way that they contribute to efficient and correct data collection and that the tools are well embedded in the UM ecosystem for scientific research.

Your work focuses on:

  • Aligning user needs with requirements and capabilities of the survey tool. Qualtrics has been used as a survey tool for academic research at Maastricht University (UM) for some time. With the extension of the use of this tool to the domains of education and business operations, the need arises to ensure that users are referred as easily as possible to the right environment for the right purpose. It is extremely important that the way in which the tool is set up and in which the key users approach the information provision for their users and management of user accounts and data, meets the needs of users while adhering to requirements such as GDPR legislation. You coordinate those needs and requirements with developers within the library, key users at the faculties and service centers and with the supplier of the tool.
  • Aligning user needs with storage solution requirements and capabilities. UM offers solutions for short-term and long-term data storage, such as DataverseNL and the Maastricht Data Repository. At the same time, we know that during data collection people often tend to store the data only in the survey tool; after completion of the data collection, various repositories are common within scientific disciplines to make data also findable for colleagues in the field. We want to prevent datasets from being stored in multiple places, while we also want to give scientists the opportunity to make their data as findable as possible. To ensure that UM employees and students make optimal use of the available solutions, it is important that they are optimally tailored to their needs.
  • Embedding the survey tool and storage solutions in the UM ecosystem for scientific research. This embedding requires a clear vision, which you will develop, taking into account developments within UM and beyond. To realize embeddedness in the Research Data Management (RDM) workflow, you will also maintain close contact with the product owner of the Research Project Services platform, in which projects are registered and then the entire workflow (e.g. data management plan, long-term storage of data) is monitored within one system. Connecting to infrastructure for data science is also important in this context.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the use of the survey tool and storage solutions. This monitoring and evaluation enables you to make data-driven decisions for optimizing processes and services.
  • Developing a roadmap for the survey tool and storage solutions. You design this roadmap in consultation with your colleagues, with sufficient attention for both innovation and maintenance.
