Job description

As Assistant Professor of Philosophy of Law, your main task will be to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Philosophy of Law, specifically in the area of the philosophy of human rights, global justice and the ethics of war. You will be given the opportunity to conduct scholarly research in the philosophy of law, both independently and in a team. Your research will be embedded in the research programme of the Research Centre for State and Law (SteR).

Requirements

  • You should have a PhD degree in law or philosophy.
  • You have extensive knowledge of the philosophy of human rights, global justice and the ethics of war.
  • You have demonstrable teaching experience and hold a University Teaching Qualification.
  • You are able to conduct academic research independently and as part of a team.
  • You have strong communication skills.
  • You have a good command of the English language, both verbally and in writing.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

  • It concerns an employment for 0.8 FTE.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €4,814 and a maximum of €6,181 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 12).
  • You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • It concerns a temporary employment for 1 year.

The Department of Philosophy of Law is part of the Faculty of Law at Radboud University. The Faculty's core tasks are education and research. The Faculty's educational programme focuses on the training of all-round jurists and postgraduate training. Characteristic of its groundbreaking scholarly research is that it is often conducted in cooperation with legal professional practice.

In education and research, the Department of Philosophy of Law deals with the (moral) foundations of law and the legal-philosophical questions involved.

The Department participates in the Research Centre for State and Law (SteR) of the Faculty of Law. The Centre aims to provide a stimulating environment for high-quality, internationally innovative legal research and to disseminate its research results through authoritative publications, lectures, conferences and symposiums. The Department currently consists of seven staff members.
