The work of the Assistant/ Associate Professor includes teaching (degree and executive education), conducting research, fulfilling administrative tasks (committees) and representative tasks. Furthermore, the Assistant/ Associate Professor is expected to actively collaborate with colleagues and practitioners (in particular members of the Nyenrode Corporate Governance Institute/NCGI) in the development of research and teaching activities at Nyenrode. The Assistant/ Associate Professor will be a key contributor to the further development of the NCGI.

Research

The Assistant/ Associate Professor will be responsible for publications in scientific journals and/or books and other publications; for establishing, maintaining, and expanding collaboration with national and international research institutes, universities and (international) businesses wherever possible and viable; for fostering and extending the network and alliances; and for embedding the input of research activities into the educational activities. The Assistant/ Associate Professor will also contribute to the development of the research agenda for the NCGI.

Considering the profile of Nyenrode and its executive education program, we are looking for a profile that is both research and impact oriented.

The candidate needs to have a solid track record of peer reviewed papers in top international academic journals in the domain of corporate governance, management, law, economics and/or accounting. (S)he also needs to have the ability to build an international network and to focus on both traditional academic and impact-oriented research to an international standard. Applicability of this research in executive education and/or a (comparative) focus on corporate governance in the Netherlands will be considered a plus.

In terms of impact, we are looking for a research agenda that aligns with major societal transformations such as climate change, planetary boundaries, inequality, energy transition, degrowth, long-termism and sustainability; inclusion and embedding of stakeholder interests; future regulatory developments; the governance of eco-systems; big data and artificial intelligence.

Education

Teaching skills need to be highly developed and exposure to boardroom members and dynamics is a plus. Corporate Governance is a crucial subject taught in the Executive Education offerings (e.g., New Board Program, ‘Commissarissencyclus’ for Non-Executive Directors, Electives, and other programs in our Board & Governance portfolio). Over time, there will be a need to teach Degree programs as well.

Engaging in the debate

The candidate will be expected to be involved in the debate on corporate governance, exemplified by a track record of successful dissemination of research and impact findings in academic as well as practitioner-oriented outlets such as practitioner publications, newspapers, and magazines.

Funding

The proven capacity to attract revenues through the successful acquisition of contract research will be considered a plus.
