Job description

The Delft Centre for Entrepreneurship (DCE), part of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), is seeking an assistant professor with a strong drive for technology entrepreneurship in an international context. The position we offer, is a tenure track position that provides you with the opportunity to pursue research and teaching excellence in the emerging field of international technology entrepreneurship.

This position is an academic career track. You are expected to: develop a clear research line in Entrepreneurial Marketing; aim for achieving societal impact; have a strong commitment in teaching technology-based entrepreneurship in a global context; and a strong focus on publishing research papers in peer-reviewed academic journals and actively take part in academic fora.

Your main responsibility is to give direction to the research agenda on international entrepreneurship in the Global South and coordinate and develop educational content for students working on entrepreneurial projects in the Global South. Your research has a focus on early technology development and commercialization through entrepreneurship in various cultural settings. The knowledge gained from research will help to develop and design new courses and course content that links to a bachelor minor program, master courses on Technology Entrepreneurship & Internationalization and an honours track aimed at Technology for Global Challenges. Hence, you will be responsible for designing, delivering and assessing courses in this field, as well as coaching students on product and service development in internationally oriented entrepreneurial ventures. The research and education activities are strongly focused on entrepreneurship in start-ups; such as lean thinking, effectuation and bottom-up value creation, born global, international team development, inclusive business models, managing cultural diversity, international and bottom of the pyramid marketing strategies etc.

You will be part of a team that conducts research on technology entrepreneurship and develops entrepreneurship education tailored to specific technology disciplines across the faculties at TU Delft. In a team of 15 FTE, the Delft Centre for Entrepreneurship offers education for approx. 1100 students at bachelor, master and PhD level, across the faculties of TU Delft and has strong collaborations in both research and education, such as YES!Delft and research labs that allow students to work on the commercialization of technology developments. The vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem provides great opportunities to make significant research contributions. You have a PhD in Business and Management, or related field, with a focus on technology and entrepreneurial marketing evidenced by a track record of teaching excellence and publication experience in entrepreneurship journals.

Requirements

•    A PhD in entrepreneurship or international management or a related field.
•    Strong teaching skills in the field of entrepreneurship or marketing.
•    Research experience and a strong record of publications in relevant academic journals.
•    Strong commitment to teaching entrepreneurship with a focus on early venturing activities and a passion to mentor students.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Possession of UTQ degree (university teaching qualification) or willingness to obtain this degree;
•    Excellent English skills;
•    Proficiency of Dutch or willingness to acquire it;
•    Experience working in or with start-ups in an internatonal context, entrepreneurship centers or related organizations is a plus

Conditions of employment

This position is offered as an Academic Career Track position (0.8 – 1.0 FTE). During the Academic Career Track, we expect you to grow towards an Associate Professor position within a maximum of eight years, for which a position will be available. With other Academic Career Track colleagues, you will participate in the Academic Career Track Development programme, where you are offered ample opportunities to develop yourself in the areas of Education, Research, Societal Impact & Innovation, and Leadership & Organisation. You will regularly discuss your development and results with senior staff based on a personalized development and performance criteria agreed upon at the start of your Academic Career Track. You will start with a temporary contract that will be converted to a permanent contract no later than 12 -18 months after a positive evaluation, based on continuous confidence in your development potential and fit in the organisation.

Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme as part of the Academic Career Track Development programme.

TU Delft sets high standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. The TU Delft offers training to improve English competency. If you do not speak Dutch, we offer courses to learn the Dutch language within three years.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
