Online Communication and Identity Formation: A Study of Social Media Platforms

Job description

The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) at the Erasmus University Rotterdam is pleased to announce a challenging PhD position that delves into understanding the ways in which online communication contributes to the construction of identities on social media platforms. In doing so, there will be a particular focus on race, ethnicity, gender, and nation (and their intersections). Analyzing social media content along with complementary interviews will contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of how social media shape individuals’ self-conception and identity.

The successful candidate will be based at the Department of Media and Communication of the ESHCC and will carry out the following tasks:

  • Taking part in meetings, seminars, workshops etc. that are organized by the Erasmus Research Institute for Media, Culture, History and Society (ERMeCHS) as well as the department of Media and Communication.
