Wageningen University is starting a new Bachelor program in Marine Sciences in September 2023. The BSc Marine Sciences (BMS) program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of marine socio-ecological systems, including the social, economic, biological, and biophysical processes that govern them. Graduates will have the skills to conduct scientific research and design innovative solutions to the challenges faced in marine environments.

Your activities as a university lecturer will include:

• Teaching on the ecological aspects of fish, fisheries, and marine resources;
• Contributing to various BSc and MSc courses, aimed at a large variety of students;
• (co-)Developing and shaping of new courses in close cooperation with colleagues.
• You are expected to further professionalise your teaching by following appropriate training.

You will work within the Aquaculture and Fisheries Group (AFI), at the Department of Animal Sciences. AFI studies fish, shellfish, and other aquatic organisms with particular interest in the interface of biology and human use. Our research topics thus range from aquaculture for food production, preserving biodiversity in natural systems, habitat connectivity in aquatic ecosystems, and the sustainable use of natural resources.

This new BSc program prepares graduates to enrol into the already existing Wageningen MSc programs Aquaculture and Marine Resources Management (MAM), Animal Sciences (MAS), and Biology (MBI). Within these MSc programs, courses such as “Life History of Aquatic Organisms”, “Marine Resources Management” and “Fisheries Ecology”, further educate the BSc graduates in these topics relevant to Marine Sciences.

• You have a university degree in biology, animal sciences or alike and a PhD degree relevant to marine sciences.
• You are interested in helping us shape the new BSc program and in teaching e.g. on the ecological aspects of fish and fisheries.
• It is considered a plus if you are familiar with the theory and concepts behind natural resources management
• You have a strong interest in sharing your knowledge with a new generation of university students.
• You have a shown interest and (some) experience with teaching
• In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position it is about language level C2. If you do not yet have this level, we will of course help you and you can go to our language center Wageningen in'to Language

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 3.226,- and € 5.929,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10 -11). Initially, we offer you a one-year contract, which will then be extended to an open-ended contract if there is mutual enthusiasm.
