Job description

Would you like to join our team and try to unravel why people respond differently to diet and how this affects their health? Do you have a passion for applying state-of-the art techniques to analyse dietary, -omics and sensor data?

General dietary guidelines aim to promote health and reduce the risk of chronic metabolic diseases such as diabetes, vascular diseases and cancer, yet a “one-size-fits-all” strategy fails to take into account inter-individual differences in response to diet and meals. Before we can give people personalized dietary advice we need to achieve a better understanding of the underlying biological pathways. The goal of this project is therefore to investigate the underlying causes and potential mechanisms of the variation in response to diet on health outcomes using existing data from dietary intervention studies as well as cohort studies.

You are going to:
  • apply novel data science methods to existing data from both dietary interventions and cohort studies;
  • perform complex analyses such as integration of omics data and causal inference to understand underlying biological mechanisms;
  • use tools such as machine learning to predict the response to diet.

The project will be carried out at the Division of Human Nutrition and Health at Wageningen University. More information about our ongoing research can be found via the following link.
